Saint of the Week
A Saint is often an ordinary person who has lived an extraordinary life of virtue and faith. As Catholics we should use these exemplars to inspire us in our daily lives.
St Marcian of Auxerre
St Marcian fled from Bourges to Auxerre to escape the pagan Visagoths. He entered the Abbey of Saint-Germain D'Auxerre and became a novice. He displayed a simple piety and was obedient to his vows. He was tested by the Abbott, who gave him the lowest jobs at the abbey. He became shepherd to the animals. He did his work with love and kindness, and it is said that the birds would eat out of his hands. Under his guidance the abbey's farm population multiplied. Even in this difficult work, he maintained his humility. The Abbey took his name after his death.
This week pray a Rosary in his honor, his feast day is April 20th.
