Letter from the Executive Director: Attack on Boston Marathon Brought Running Community Together

by Eva Dunn-Froebig, Run Wild Missoula Executive Director

We all know that good things can emerge from bad-- and the reaction from the running community after the attack at the Boston Marathon was no exception. I have never seen such an outpouring of support and positive reaction from such terrible actions.  Click here to read the entire article.

Be a part of an art show representing the love of running!  "Art of the Run" to be held July 5 though July 15 will be a juried show of recently completed works held in conjunction with the Missoula Marathon. View From The Back: Help Wanted

by Pam Gardiner, Leader, Back of the Pack

The Back of the Pack (or BOP) emerged on the Run Wild Missoula scene about 2.5 years ago. The BOP e-mail list will soon pass 170, representing more than 10 percent of total Run Wild membership. The BOP has name recognition within the running community, and plays an influential role in building club events that address the needs of slower runners and walkers.  We now face the question "What to do with our success?"  A growing mailing list triggers a desire to grow the program. Growing (or even maintaining) the program means more work by more people. Click here to read the entire article.

Member Profile: Betsy Mulligan-Dague

"I was inspired to run by Ethel MacDonald, my friend. I've done many Bloomsday runs (started doing then in 1994 when I quit smoking) and even did the Missoula Half Marathon in 2010. But I really didn't make it a habit or know what I was doing.  Running always left me exhausted and sore.  But still I longed to find an activity I enjoyed that would get me active and fit. I signed up for the beginning running class with Miranda, Spring and Kelsi in September 2011 and have been running ever since."   Click here to read entire article about member Betsy Mulligan-Dague.

Reflections On The Boston Marathon

by Run Wild Missoula Member Sara Stahl
I'm on my way home from Boston where, as you may know, I was among the 25,000 people who awoke yesterday to run the world's greatest marathon and went to bed having been at the heart of a national tragedy. Enough friends and colleagues have asked about my experience that I decided to put it down here in hopes of saving it from becoming a worn-out anecdote. Click here to read entire article.

Returning From Injury

by Run Wild Missoula Member David Schmetterling
It was around this time last year I tried to start running again and began training for the Missoula Marathon- the 2013 Missoula Marathon. That training lasted through the summer when I suffered another setback.  I resumed training again this winter, and joined the Missoula Marathon Training class this spring.   The last time I wrote an article for RWM it was about long range planning for the organization- so I decided to write one about long range planning for myself.  Here it is.

Why Do Drills??

by Kristi Moore, MSPT, Alpine Physical Therapy
If you want to improve as a runner and prevent injury, you need to do more than just run.  Running drills can be a great way to help you do both.  Running drills provide dynamic flexibility, strength training specific to running, and will help to improve your running form. What does this mean? You become a more efficient runner with less risk of injury.
