To all of our customers out there we want to say THANK YOU and WE LOVE YOU!!! In a few days RunAbout turns 12 years old. We started off downtown in the back of what is now 310 Rosemont. After three years we relocated
to the University Mall where we remained for a little over nine years. Now we are happily settled into our new home in the First & Main Shopping Center and are excited to continue to serve our community.
Like most small businesses we struggled greatly in the beginning; many times questioning if we would make it. Due to the support of our customers over the years you have all kept us going and allowed us to offer the Healthy Kids Runs, Thursday Night Race Series, the Pub Runs, our Race Series which includes the Hokie Half and to continue great traditions like the Draper Mile and Blacksburg Classic. Because of you we have been able to expand our selection of products. When we first opened only a few companies (Mizuno, Brooks and Saucony) would take a chance on us in an industry that has a 50% failure rate in the first two years. Now we have 13 shoe companies that allow us to offer a diverse selection of running and walking shoes. We will continue to get better and hope that our service, selection and price will keep you coming back. Thanks for shopping local and
thank you again and again for allowing us to do what we love!
With great appreciation,
Your RunAbout Crew

Nutrition Tip of the Month
|
As the we move towards summer and the temperature starts to rise, so does your need to carefully hydrate while out running. First and foremost, stay on top of drinking throughout the day to ensure you start each run well hydrated. Urine color is the best indicator of hydration status and you want to aim for urine the color of lemonade, not apple juice!
It's important to replace sweat losses by hydrating regularly throughout runs. Simply guidelines include consuming 5-10oz of water every 15-20 min, however individual sweat rates may vary. On particularly hot days and for moderate to high intensity sessions lasting > 60 min, consider carrying a sports drink to replace electrolyte losses and prevent cramping. For those who experience high sodium losses during exercise, eat salty foods as part of a pre-exercise meal or add salt to sports drinks consumed during exercise.
Happy Fueling!
