Fight Inflammation with Healthy Fats
Most people know that healthy (unsaturated) fats are considered cardio-protective and can reduce risk of heart disease, but did you know they're important for recovery and immune health too? Healthy fats from sources such as olive oil, nuts and seeds, fish, avocados, flaxseed and wheat germ work to reduce training-induced inflammation, thus aiding in recovery, while boosting overall immune health too!
Pineapple-Mango Guacamole
2 (ripe!) avocados
1/2 lime, juiced
3-4 cloves of garlic, minced
1/3 c. pineapple, finely chopped
1/3 c. mango, finely chopped
1/2 c. tomatoes, diced
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
Start by cutting avocados in half, remove the seed, and then scoop out the flesh with a fork into a medium bowl. Immediately combine with lime juice, which adds a nice zesty flavor while preventing your avocado from browning. Next, mix in your minced garlic, finely chopped pineapple, mango and tomatoes, and salt and pepper. Serve immediately or chill up to 24 hours in an airtight container for optimal freshness!
