World War I
Centennial Tribute
Saturday, November 11
This Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, the Rutherford World War One Centennial Committee will sponsor a World War I Centennial Tribute beginning at 11:00am at the WWI Monument located at the intersection of Park and West Passaic Avenues. The names of Rutherford residents who died in service to their country during World War I will be read followed by a flag folding ceremony presented by Saving Hallowed Ground .

Immediately following the service at the monument, all are invited to visit the Rutherford Library for refreshments and to see:

  • a display of WWI Memorabilia, including WWI artifacts, family mementos, and WWI library books
  • a screening of The Lost Battalion at 1:30pm
  • a screening of Letters From World War I, which will be shown continuously throughout the day
  • an exhibit honoring Rutherford residents who serve in WWI

The poster exhibit, which will include WWI memorials and monuments in Rutherford, women who served, pictures of individuals who served from Rutherford, and more, will be on display at the library from November 11 through the end of the month.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Old MacDonald's Sing-Along Farm
Friday, November 17, 4:00pm
Bright Star Theatre will present Old MacDonald's Sing-Along Farm.  Join Old MacDonald, his wife Mrs. MacDonald, Daisy the Cow, Simon the Pig, and all our favorite friends from the farm for a fun and energetic sing-a-long while learning about caring and sharing.
This program is for children aged pre-k through 3rd grade and no registration is required.  Thanks again to the Friends of the Library for their generous funding of this program.
Zumba for Kids

Wear your sneakers, get active, and move to your favorite music!

For kids ages 6-11

Registration is required and priority is given to Rutherford residents. 
Paint by Stickers: Zoo Animals!
Monday, November 27, 4:00pm

Just like paint-by-numbers, you can create your own art by using stickers!

This program is for children ages 7-11.  Registration is required and is now in progress.
Robotics Workshop
Children ages 8, 9, and 10 years old are invited to participate in our robotics workshop!

During these workshops, students will follow step-by-step instructions to construct and code their robots using suggested programs with LEGO Robotics Kits and laptops. Students will learn engineering and robotics concepts as well as cooperation and teamwork. 

This program will be conducted on Wednesday, November 29 and December 6 from 4:30pm - 5:30pm. If you are registering for this program, you need to be able to attend both days.

Registration is now in progress and space is very limited, so register early!

Drop-In Story Time

Join us for stories, songs, and fun! Make new friends and get ready for reading. For children from infants to 5 years of age and their parents or caregivers. No registration required.

Paws to Read
We welcome back Rodney, a registered Bright and Beautiful therapy dog, for our Paws to Read program. Rodney will be at the library with his owner on Tuesday, November 28  from 4:00pm - 5:00pm .

Yogi, another registered therapy dog, will be visiting our library on Wednesday, November 15 from 4:00pm - 5:00pm.
Children who are able to read at least a little bit and would like to be able to practice their reading skills are invited to sign up for a 15 minute time slot with Rodney or Yogi. Parents may, of course, accompany their child during their time with the dog.

Computer Basics:

A three-part class for those who wish to learn the basics of using a PC and navigating the Internet.  This class is perfect for those who are completely new to computers.

Intermediate Computers:
Mondays, November 6, 13, 20 at 11:00am
A three-part class for those who have completed Computer Basics or who already have a basic knowledge of using a PC. In this class you will learn how to organize files, personalize your settings, and troubleshoot minor computer problems.
Registration is required for both classes and students must attend all three classes.

Museum Pass Program
Rutherford residents, the Rutherford Public Library has partnered with 15 museums to provide free entry passes which you may check out with your library card.
 
Passes can be reserved up to 60 days in advance by calling the library at (201) 939-8600 or online .
