WELCOME TO RUTIZ FARMS
The farm stand is now operating under our "spring" hours...Tuesdays and Fridays, noon to 6 pm.
Saturdays, 10am to 4pm.
Needless to say, the rain that forgot to come this past winter has shown up now. Good for most of the plants...except for the strawberries! We will have strawberries...just not too many and not quite as sweet and ripe as we would have liked for now.
Our chickens are hard at work laying some delicious eggs.
Using a special feed that is GMO free and scraps from the farm stand...our hens eat pretty well and get plenty of exercise running around ...no cages here!
$7 per dozen...a bargain if you think about what goes into making an egg!
We are now stocking BeeWench Farms bone broth...Chicken Bone Broth made with BWF Chicken Bones, Organic Carrots, Organic Celery, Organic Onions, Organic Garlic, Organic Black Peppercorns, Organic Turmeric, Organic Parsley Flakes and Sea Salt We have a supply of the frozen bone broth in jars that are available for sale on all of our Stand days.

What's in this week's Box
Grown on our farm using organic farming methods:
broccoli, garlic, radishes, baby bok choy, salad mix and potatoes,
The "Persian" type cucumbers are grown by Ocean breeze Farms in Nipomo...pesticide free.
The vine ripened tomatoes are grown by Debbie Chamberlin in the Salton Sea are of Southern California...picked fully ripe for great flavor...pesticide free.
The Zutano avocados are grown by Dave Righetti...pesticide free.
The oranges are grown by Bob Polito in San Diego Co....pesticide free.
An easy recipe for the
baby bok choy:
Cut the heads lengthwise in half or quarters(depending on original head size)and thoroughly rinse with water to remove sand.
Place in skillet with a small amount of water, heat water to a boil, cover with a lid and "steam' for a few minutes until slightly softened.
Drain off most of remaining water, add finely chopped garlic and onion, salt and pepper ( optional--soy sauce, chili flakes, or ginger ) and a little olive oil.
Saute, turning the bok choy until a little crispy on each side.
This week's "
spring" garlic...this is a true garlic plant, just harvested early, before it makes a bulb and dries out.
They are the size of a large scallion and have a sweet and mild garlic flavor. Use them the same as a onion scallion or regular garlic...raw cut up and added to salad, sauteed in a stir-fry with carrots, broccoli, or potatoes... or coat them with a little olive oil and roast them on a bar-b-que or under a broiler. Use the bottom 3 to 4 inches, but not the leaves as they can be a bit tough.
The "
Sierra Gold" potatoes are great for baking, roasting, mashing or frying. No need to peel off the outer skin, just scrub off the dirt and cook with the skins left on ( much of the nutrients in a potato are in the skins!). They have a nice sweet taste and a yellow, creamy insides.
