             YLC Activities

YLC members assisted with decorating the community for the Holiday Season again this year. Van Buren High School students decorated a tree for the Lions Festival of trees event that helps raise money for Christmas for kids. All ornaments and decorations for this tree are donated to the youth for the project. A second group of high school students spent a frigid morning decorating the tree in the city park. With the cooperation of Keosauqua light and power the strung the lights on the tree to provide a festive look for our downtown area.

The youth are preparing for National Drug Facts Week in January. There will be a variety of activities that will be held in the Van Buren Middle School, High School, Harmony High School and the community. This week is intended to shatter the myths about drugs and bring awareness to the dangers of these substances.

STAFF- National Drug Facts Week
January 27-31st
School Staff- This is a notification that National Drug Facts Week is Jan 27th-31st. The YLC members will be holding a variety of activities during this week to shatter the myths about drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
YLC members and the SAFE Coalition would love it if there would be any way you could reinforce the message sometime that week during your lessons! Many of you have been very creative with this in your classrooms- Mr. Atwood has calculated the costs of tobacco in math classes, Mrs. Ekle has read stories and written papers, Mr. Plecker has asked kids make projects, there are many health, science and art applications that can also be used!
Information on National Drug Facts Week can be found by clicking on the logo below!
If you are able to hold an activity or lesson during this week could you please let the coalition office know so that they can track these activities. You may email the coalition at please provide information about your activity/lesson and the number of students you impacted! Thanks so much in advance for your support!
