Road Safety Assessments for Local Governments

 

This class will provide participants with the skills necessary to assemble a Road Safety Assessment (RSA) team, complete an RSA and prioritize and mitigate safety issues RSAs may uncover. This Training Opportunity is offered by the T2 Center's Connecticut Safety Academy.

Who Should Attend

 

This class is designed for any local or state transportation or public safety professionals involved in making decisions regarding the safety of their road systems.  Engineers, Public Works Directors, Highway Supervisors, Planners, Legal Traffic Authorities (LTA's), Police Chiefs, Traffic Officers and other law enforcement personnel are encouraged to attend.

Please make sure to bring a safety vest to the training for the field exercise.
 
Participants will receive 6 credit hours towards their CT Safety Champion Designation.
Course Instructor

 

Anthony A. Lorenzetti, P.E. is the Safety Circuit Rider at the University of Connecticut Technology Transfer Center. He has over 30 years of professional engineering experience including both public and private sector employment. He served as the Public Works Director/Town Engineer for the Town of Plymouth, Connecticut for over 20 years.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to:
  • Understand how Road Safety Assessments (RSA's) serve as an effective tool to help reduce injuries and fatalities on your road network.
     
  • Understand basic road safety assessment concepts, including risk, safety and common issues.
     
  • Gain experience in conducting a road safety assessment.
     
  • Learn how low cost safety improvements can be implemented to help reduce the number of traffic fatalities and severe injury crashes.
