News for the Parents of Saint Andrew Catholic School
SEPTEMBER 27, 2016
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,

Happy Booknic week! It's been wonderful to see so many parents, grandparents and friends on campus. Thank you for joining us for lunch and supporting our school through the book fair.

Last Wednesday, we celebrated Mass with Father John Mark and reflected on the life of Saint Matthew whose Feast was celebrated September 21st. Father John Mark shared that Saint Matthew was one of the "more educated" Apostles. While I hadn't really reflected on that much before, it only makes sense that the tax collector would have spent more time in a "classroom" than the fishermen did. When challenged by the Pharisees about his association with tax collectors and sinners, Jesus replied: "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do."

In her Gospel reflection, eighth-grader Karenna Bryan challenged the student body to spend some time thinking about this statement. I took Karenna's challenge to heart. Extrapolating on Jesus' reply, I would also add that all levels of learners need a strong and challenging teacher. All children need involved and caring parents. All educators need the example of a Master Teacher. In Catholic schools, this Master Teacher is Christ. How blessed we all are as students, parents and teachers to have the example of the Master Teacher to follow.

Only By His Grace,
Veronica Tucker

LIVING THE WORD - TRADITION
This week, we begin a new seating tradition in our cafeteria as we have received our new tables.  It has been a goal of the school to make this a multipurpose facility.  The cafeteria is used for school lunches but will also be used by the school and parish for workshops, faculty/staff meetings, school dances and will be available for various church ministries to utilize.  The previous tables have been in the cafeteria for over 25 years.  Their legacy will live on as they will be donated to Saint Mary's Catholic School in Gainsville.  We are very happy that we were able to find a good home for them.

Again, we thank our families for making our cafeteria remodel possible.  This project was a result of your generosity at Auction last year.

NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY
We would like to thank the Saint Andrew community for your generosity on North Texas Giving Day.  The school raised approximately $40,000 and we are expecting an additional $2,000 in bonus money from the North Texas Giving Day Community Foundation.  You answered the call and placed the school and parish a step closer to much needed parking.  We are currently in the bid process for our additional parking lot.  Thank you for your partnership.

In His Service,

Charles Llewellyn

TRADING CARDS
Pokemon cards seem to have become very popular lately especially with 3rd - 5th grades. While this may be a very fun game, it has become very distracting at school. Teachers have had to resolve issues with the students and these cards on a regular basis.

From now on, across the school, we ask that all Pokemon cards (and any other trading cards) be left at home for the remainder of the year. School time is valuable and important. We are hoping this eliminates distractions in the classroom and at lunch time. Please make sure that your student leaves his or her cards at home. If the cards make it to school, they will be held by the teacher until the end of the day.
