News for the Parents of Saint Andrew Catholic School
February 20, 2018

Dear Families,

This past Wednesday, Ash Wednesday, Mrs. Kinsey's 1st graders led us in a beautiful service as we opened the season of Lent. This year's theme for Lent, is "Be Still".  Each morning we listen to "Be Still" by Kari Jobe. I encourage you to also listen to this touching song which reminds us to be still knowing that God is here as we wait patiently through these 40 days of Lent. At Mass this past weekend, Father Joe talked about experiencing a joyful Lent. It seems almost like an oxymoron, doesn't it? How should we experience joy as we wait and remember the days leading to the crucifixion of Christ? It got me thinking that a joyful Lent is what we experience in the halls of Saint Andrew. Your students listen to Scripture each morning and pray throughout the day as we continue on our joyful journey towards Easter. I pray that this Lenten season is a time of reflection, conversion and joy for each of you as well.

Only by His Grace,
Veronica Tucker

FROM THE NURSES' DESK
Dear Parents,

This year the flu has hit hard.  The faculty and staff work diligently to help prevent the spread of the flu and flu-like illnesses.  Over the weekend we had a team deep cleaning the school as a preventative measure to help stop the spread of germs.  Our teachers and faculty do a wonderful job of sending students down to the clinic when they are concerned about illness, cleaning rooms and reminding students of preventative measures to help stop the spread of germs.

The CDC has said that at this time the flu season has not peaked and is not expected to until about Spring Break.  As a reminder the CDC recommends that sick children and staff stay home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have fever or signs of a fever (chills, feeling very warm, flushed appearance, or sweating) without using fever-reducing medicines. In addition, it is recommended to routinely clean surfaces and objects that are touched often.  Please remind your students to cough or sneeze into their elbow or use a tissue, not to share drinks, and use hand sanitizer or wash hands frequently.

We have included the full list of exclusion and return guidelines for a reminder.  As always if you have any questions you can call or email us anytime.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS
Congratulations to Maya Seymore for winning first place at the Diocesan-wide history fair this past weekend.  Also, congratulations to  Beatrice Birbeck who won third place.   The projects were judged for creativity, historical accuracy, skills, clarity, and neatness. Way to go!

Congratulations to Carly Reed who placed 2nd in the Knights of Columbus free throw competition at Nolan Catholic.

DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that we have 2 member of our Parish who are studying for the priesthood? Please pray for David LaPoint (SAS Alum) and Joseph Hoffschwelle to grow in self-awareness as they continue to discern Jesus Christ's call. Please also pray for the other 24 seminarians who are discerning the call.

God our Father, Thank you for calling these young men to prepare for the priesthood. Grant them the grace to grow closer to You through daily prayer. Help them form their personality as a credible witness to others. Bless them while they study Your word and the teachings of the Church, and give them a generous heart to serve Your people. We ask this through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our great High Priest. Amen.
