News for the Parents of Saint Andrew Catholic School
May 1, 2018
Dear Families,

This last Saturday, a group of teachers and myself, attended the Humanae Vitae conference at Saint Patrick. During this conference, we heard from Dr. Janet Smith and Bishop Michael Olson. Both opened our eyes to the importance of this encyclical written by Pope Paul VI and its application to our lives today. One area of focus is parenthood. In his presentation, Bishop Olson compared the church to parenthood. He stated: "When the Church teaches, she teaches as a mother.... She addresses the individual needs of her children". This made me think of the different methods and strategies I must use to reach my own four (very different) children. Extrapolating further, it reminded me of the challenges our teachers face when they also, while modeling the Church, work to address the diverse needs of the students in their classrooms. Bishop Olson also shared that "how the Church teaches is as important as what she teaches". Again, this aligns with how parents (the first teachers) and classroom teachers impact children most strongly via their actions. Strong relationships coupled with well-developed content and best practices lead to the best results. The adoption of the Theology of the Body curriculum next year will allow this to happen beautifully as teachers model and teach all students the importance of their bodies created in the image of God - and the consequent value they each have. If possible, please attend this Friday's Parents' Night Out Dinner Fundraiser to learn more about this program. (For more information, see flyer below.)

Mary, during this month of May in which we honor you, please pray for us.

Only by His Grace,
Veronica Tucker

VACATION BIBLE CAMP
Splash Canyon Vacation Bible School is scheduled for June 25 through June 29, 2018 from 9 a.m. to noon.   VBS requires many hands to make it successful.  At this time we do not have enough adult volunteers for this event to take place for the children of the parish.  Because of this we are having to look at cancelling VBS this year.  If you are an adult who likes working with children and would be able to join us in leading the children as they learn more about God please contact Kathy Lawson or Star Fedor in the Pastoral Center THIS WEEK.
