One quarter of the year is complete! Report cards were sent home electronically yesterday and now the second quarter is in full swing. With the wrap-up of the quarter also come a few other details. Parent/teacher conferences will be the end of the month on the 28th. More information on conferences is below. Additionally, IOWA test results will be distributed at these conferences.  We will have a parent meeting on November 7th at 6pm in the library to review our performance as a school, examine trends and share goals and strategies for the future. Please make plans to attend. Thank you for your continual support of Saint Andrew Catholic School.

LATE/MISSING ASSIGNMENTS

Just a reminder from a previous Wildcat Weekly. We at Saint Andrew take seriously our mission to form our students in faith as well as teach valuable life skills such as responsibility,  autonomy, self-reliance, initiative, problem-solving and confidence. Our students and parents have really risen to the occasion and done so much better in remembering assignments, iPads, P.E. clothes, etc.

As stated in the handbook and in the September 20th Wildcat Weekly, students are not allowed to call home for homework, P.E. uniforms, etc.  I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and partnership with our school in this endeavor. If your child does forget a needed item and it is brought to school, he/she will still receive the same "late" consequence as any other student.

However, if a student happens to forget a lunch, glasses, after-school items or needs clarification on pick-up, he/she may come to the office and call.

NOLAN SPIRIT DAY AT SAINT ANDREW

In honor of Nolan Catholic's Homecoming this weekend, we are having Nolan Spirit Day this week. This Friday, students may wear either Nolan or Saint Andrew shirts with their uniform bottoms and uniform shoes.

LIVING THE WORD
This Sunday, October 23 rd  is World Mission Sunday.  The school will say
World Mission Rosary
a World Mission Rosary on Wednesday as a prayer service at 9:00am.  The  rosary is one of the traditions of our Catholic faith that helps to bring us closer to Christ through prayer.

The use of "prayer beads" and the repeated recitation of prayers to aid in meditation stem from the earliest days of the Church and has roots in pre-Christian times. Evidence exists from the Middle Ages that strings of beads were used to count Our Fathers and Hail Marys. Actually, these strings of beads became known as "Paternosters," the Latin for "Our Father."
The structure of the rosary gradually evolved between the 12th and 15th centuries. Eventually 50 Hail Marys were recited and linked with verses of psalms or other phrases evoking the lives of Jesus and Mary. During this time, this prayer form became known as the rosarium ("rose garden"), actually a common term to designate a collection of similar material, such as an anthology of stories on the same subject or theme. During the 16th century, the structure of the five-decade rosary based on the three sets of mysteries prevailed.

Tradition does hold that St. Dominic (d. 1221) devised the rosary as we know it. Moved by a vision of our Blessed Mother, he preached the use of the rosary in his missionary work among the Albigensians, who had denied the mystery of Christ.

There are many benefits to using the rosary for prayer.

Benefits of the Rosary

1 . It gradually gives us a perfect knowledge of Jesus Christ.
2 . It purifies our souls, washing away sin.
3 . It gives us victory over all our enemies.
4 . It makes it easy for us to practice virtue.
5 . It sets us on fire with love of Our Lord.
6 . It enriches us with graces and merits.
7 . It supplies us with what is needed to pay all our debts to God and to our fellow men; and finally, it obtains all kinds of graces for us from Almighty God.

In His Service,
Charlie Llewellyn, President
