News for the Parents of Saint Andrew Catholic School
August 22, 2017
FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

I pray that the first week of school has gone well for your students and that your children have fallen back into the school routine. We have survived the first week, the 7th/8th grade move back into the main building and the Solar Eclipse!

Tomorrow is our first regular Mass which is also the start of one of my absolute favorite Saint Andrew traditions - all students bringing food to the altar. Each week, before the priest prepares the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, all students are invited to bring a non-perishable food item. Common items include canned goods, dry pastas, cereals, toiletries, paper products, etc. This is a special way for all students to be a part of the Mass. If you are able, please send one of these items with your student tomorrow. As always, you are invited to attend our weekly Masses. We celebrate Mass every Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. We love having visitors!

Only By His Grace,
Veronica D. Tucker

OFFICE HOURS
Official Office hours for the 2017 - 2018 academic year are 7:30 am - 3:30 pm.

NURSE

We are thrilled to have Bette Felder and Michelle Russell as our nurses. Mrs. Felder and Mrs. Russell are each part-time. Nurse Felder is on campus Mondays and Thursdays. Nurse Russell is on campus Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

So that communication is consistent, both nurses share one e-mail address:  [email protected] . Please use this e-mail when relaying information electronically to the clinic. Thank you!

SAINT ANDREW PLAID AND JEWELRY
Just a reminder that all plaid skirts and plaid jumpers MUST be purchased at Parker Uniforms. The plaid as well as the styles sold at other locations are different from the school uniform and are therefore in violation of the uniform code. Please be sure your students are in compliance so that out-of-uniform slips do not have to be sent home.

Please be respectful of the uniform policy regarding jewelry:
  • One genuinely religious necklace, and/or one genuinely religious bracelet and/or one genuinely religious ring may be worn as determined by the school
  • Only girls may wear earrings - one set only, and on the earlobe. For safety reasons, the earrings should not be longer than the bottom of the earlobe.
  • Please do not wear jewelry that is not in compliance with this such as Kendra Scott necklaces. This will result in an out of uniform slip if they continue to be worn.
Thank you for partnering with us in this.

SUPPORT SAS
HOME & SCHOOL MEETING

Our first Home & School Meeting of the 2017-2018 school year will be Friday, August 25th in the school cafeteria immediately following morning prayers.

Please join us!! We have plenty of positions available for our new parents who would love to get involved.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Fall Festival Drawing Committee is looking for a few parents to help out at dismissal time for a few weeks in September.
You will be handing out popsicles to the students whose families bought drawing tickets. Come out and get involved! We appreciate any time you can give! Please email or call us with your name and number.

Looking for a fun way to support Saint Andrew School and celebrate our wonderful staff and students.

Come be part of a team and help us celebrate the Class of the Week during the 2017-2018 school year. Your role would be to celebrate the class who planned the weekly Mass. The students each receive a "paw" cookie and share a special talent with you and their class.

It is a great way to get to know our students and staff. For more information or to volunteer email Summer Riney or call her at 214-808-1288.

FELLOWSHIP & ROSARY

A group of parents meets weekly for fellowship and to pray the rosary on Monday afternoons.  We meet at 2:30pm in the faculty room.  Please contact Jeanne Murphy,  [email protected],  for more information or to be included on a Monday reminder text.

PICTURE DAY

Homeroom and individual pictures will be taken on August 29th.  This year Glamourcraft will be photographing student in front of a green screen. Parents will have the opportunity to choose from 8 different backgrounds for their picture package.

Please use School code SAC17 if you wish to place your order online at www.glamourcraft.com.   Parents who order online do not have to turn in an order form on Picture day.

"WILD WILD WEST" BOOK FAIR

Our " Wild Wild West" Book Fair will begin Friday, September 15th, and run through Friday, September 22nd, from 7:30am-3:30pm in the library each day.

This book fair is a fundraiser for our 8th graders and their end-of-year activities.  It would not be possible without our parent volunteers! As a volunteer, you can sign up to help the little ones complete their wishlists (Friday, the 15th), help with the cash registers (they are really very easy to learn and easy to use!), help during BookNic, which will be very busy, and/or help set up or tear down the book fair.  This is a great way to get involved and it's fun!

Please try to sign up for a shift or two. Feel free to sign up for as many shifts as you want!  Thank you!

GARAGE SALE

After a several-year hiatus, Saint Andrew School has decided to bring back the garage sale in an effort to raise more money as part of the Fall Festival.  We believe that the garage sale can be a BIG success with your help.  That table that you've been meaning to put on Craigslist for a couple of years?  Those clothes that your child has outgrown?  We will take them off of your hands and make money for SAS in the process! The items we are seeking for donation are as follows:
  • Clothes, Shoes, Coats and other wearable items
  • Purses and Bags
  • Toys and Games
  • Sports items
  • Furniture
All items should be clean and in good condition. Please ONLY donate items that are sellable.  The garage sale will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Saint Andrew Gym from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Donations will be accepted at the Saint Andrew Gym stage from 7:30-8:30am and 2:15-3:30pm on:

At the time of drop-off we will provide a tax donation form.  If for any reason you cannot bring items that you are willing to donate to the gym at that time, please call Josh Borsellino at 817.908.9861 and he will arrange to pick the items up at a time that is convenient to you.  Please contact one of our 2017  Fall Festival chairs with any questions.
