Amendment to the Parent/Student Handbook

As Principal of Saint Andrew Catholic School, I amend the following Parent/Student Handbook policies:  
 
  • Dismissal (Pg. 8) - Students in grades PK - 5 will remain with a teacher until a parent or designated person picks them up.  Students in grades 6ththrough 8thwill be dismissed to the front of the building. 
  • Nurse, Illness, and Medication (Pg. 11) - In addition, a child must be free of vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hrs. before returning to school without the use of medication.

SCHOOL MASSES

Mass for Kindergarten - 8th grade students will begin at 8:15am tomorrow, Wednesday.  Mass Attire is always required for school liturgies. Please click here for uniform information.

Preschool 3 & Preschool 4 students will attend weekly Mass on Thursday at 8:00am.

FALL FESTIVAL SPONSORSHIP 2018
We are pleased to announce the 2018 Saint Andrew Catholic School Fall Festival will take place:

from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm on Saint Andrew Catholic School Campus

The Saint Andrew Catholic School community is looking forward to their annual Fall Festival; a wonderful, family-fun event builds both financial support and a stronger community, with more than 2,500 people in attendance.

The planning committee for the Fall Festival is seeking financial support for the event.   Support from businesses, parents, teachers and alumni is key to continuing the success of Saint Andrew Catholic School. The Fall Festival is the largest Fall fundraiser for the school. The school utilizes funds from the Fall Festival to provide tuition assistance to financially challenged families, improve and advance technology, and provide security and facility upgrades.

NOTES FROM THE NURSES
Notes from the Nurses :
 
Welcome back to school!  We have survived the first week.  It is wonderful to see all of our returning students and to meet all the new students.  We look forward to hel ping our Wildcats' be their best this year.
 
A few reminders as we continue through the year:
 
1.    If your student needs to take medication at school, please know that all medication (prescription, over-the-counter, cough drops) must be kept in the clinic and administered by the nurse. Students are NOT permitted to keep any medications in their possession during the school day.

2.    All medication, whether prescription or over the counter, MUST have a Medication permit signed by both the physician and a parent.  New this year, cough drops must have a medication permit as well.  All medication must be in the original container, labeled with the child's name, and unexpired.

3.    Any student who has an allergy requiring an Epinephrine Pen (Epi-Pen) MUST have an Allergy Action Plan completed and signed by both the physician and a parent, a medication permit, and the medication in the clinic prior to attending school. If at any time the epinephrine is not at school with your student, he or she can not attend school. This is for your child's safety.  

4.    All new students are required to have a physical completed within the last year, and those wishing to participate in sports (grades 6 through 8) are required to have a physical, dated on or after June 1, 2018. New student physicals need to be turned into the clinic by September 4, 2018.

LADIES NIGHTS GROUP
Saint Andrew Ladies Night Group was created 2 years ago  as a faith based, social opportunity to build up our parish and school community. It has grown to over 300 wonderful women. Four  meetings are held per school year.  The first meeting for the 2018 - 2019 school year will take place on September 21st, beginning with 6:00PM Mass celebrated by Father Jim, followed by dinner and wine/beer in the Parish Hall.

Need PE uniforms,  spirit  shirts or sweatshirts? Come check out the SAS  Spirit  Shop,  which will open on Thursdays at morning drop off and then again at 2:30pm.
CALENDAR CHANGE
Grandparents Day has been moved from Friday, November 16th to Friday, February 1st.  (Please check the calendar on a regular basis, event dates and details are subject to change.)

PICTURE DAY
Individual and homeroom pictures will be taken on Thursday, August 30th. Students are to come in Mass Attire. Order forms have been sent home with the students. Or, you may place your order online at www.glamourcraft.com using our School code:  SAC18. Parents who order online do not have to bring an order form on Picture day.

CHEERLEADER FOR A DAY
For $100 your Preschool 4 year old - 4th grade daughter can be a "Cheerleader for a day" with the Saint Andrew 7th/8th grade cheer squad. Receive a t-shirt and a bow and enjoy the opportunity to practice with the squad, cheer at an 8th grade football game and also perform at the Saint Andrew Fall Festival Pep Rally.

MARIAN STATUES

The Spiritual Life Committee at Saint Andrew Catholic School offers two blessed st atues to its families:  A statue of Rosa Mystica and an Immaculate Heart of  Mary Statue.  Each week (from Wednesday afternoon to the following Wednesday morn ing) two families will have the opportunity to take these statues home and use them as a source of inspiration, prayer and reflection. The tote bag containing the statue will also have  suggested prayers. ANNUAL FUND

By now, all SAS parents & grandparents should have received their Annual Fund packet in the mail. Please prayerfully consider sharing your blessings with SAS. If you begin donating $100 - $200 a month now, by May you will have given $1000 - $2000 to our wonderful school. If you need a packet or know someone who would be interested in making a donation, please pick one up in the office or call and we will send one home with your child.

MEN'S BIBLE STUDY
Acts of the Apostles or Revelation
 
Join us as we study the Acts of the Apostles or choose Revelation (Tuesdays only).  Join us in the Parish Hall on Saturday mornings 6:30am-8:30am beginning September 8th or Tuesday nights 7:00pm-9:00pm, beginning September 11th, whatever works best for you and your family.  Learn from the high-quality videos and workbooks from Ascension Press and small-group discussion with fellow men from the Saint Andrew community.  We've adjusted our schedule and format to accommodate the growth we have seen and based on your feedback.  Contact  Jim Riney  or  Paul Bernardy  with questions or register below:

What are the Dates?    Begins October 3, 2018 and runs until April 24, 2019

Who can attend  Saint Andrew  High School  Formation?   Youth Group  is open to ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS regardless of whether they attend a Catholic, public or private high school! 

When do we meet?   We will meet October through April on most Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm, some Sundays from 3:00 - 6:00pm and participate in Life Nights four Sunday evenings from 5pm to 9pm this year! See Master Calendar for details on dates, times, and locations!

What do we do at Youth Group?    This year, we are bringing in the highly acclaimed LIFETEEN to Saint Andrew Youth Ministry!   Click here    to learn more!   We will meet our teens where they are now and walk together in unity towards a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  There is such a  need for High School Youth Ministry!     We focus on four areas of formation each month:  Spiritual, Intellectual, Human and Pastoral activities.  We will join hands through prayer, scripture, service projects, relationship building and simple fun, fellowship and we may even master a game or two of Dodge Ball! What are the guidelines for Confirmation ?   In order to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, your teen must be at least 15 years of age.  You can also find the diocesan guidelines for the Sacrament of Confirmation  here

What are the Dates?    Our confirmation classes will compliment our Youth Group setting on Wednesday evenings.  Specific details will be discussed in our parent/teen/ministry meeting.  You will be prompted below to schedule a meeting time.

Do I need to attend Youth Group classes while I am enrolled in Confirmation?   Yes!  Youth who are interested in receiving their Sacrament of Confirmaiton must also be enrolled in our High School Faith FormationYouth Group.    

Who can attend?    Each baptized Catholic can and should receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The candidates may request the Sacrament if they:
1.        Are baptized and able to renew baptismal promises.
2.        Are open to receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
3.        Have received their First Communion, are participating in the Sunday Mass and in the sacramental life of the Church. (Adolescents who have not received First Communion will be catechized with age appropriate catechesis).
4.        Have reached 15 years of age.
5.        Are willing to commit to active involvement in the parish during and after Confirmation preparation.
6.        Are willing to continue to grow in faith following Confirmation and throughout their lifetime.

College Moms and Dads! You are in our prayers! We know seeing your children embark on a new chapter whether college or just life, bring such incredible emotions! You are in our prayers!  And for all the Moms out there that yearn for a place to gather with other college moms, we have established a COLLEGE MOMS CONNECT Care Package gathering. THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!  Seniors for Seniors BINGO!    Calling all parish senior citizens to join us for a game of Bingo with our High School Youth Group Students!   MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THESE SUNDAYS FROM 3:30 - 4:45PM in the Parish Hall!  OCTOBER 7, NOVEMBER 4,   DECEMBER 2, FEBUARY 3, MARCH 3 AND APRIL 7! We LOVE our SENIORS!
