News for the Parents of Saint Andrew Catholic School
January 9, 2018
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,

Happy New Year!

I pray everyone enjoyed the break and that your 2018 has opened with blessings! After a Fort Worth Christmas with my side of the family, we traveled to Pittsburgh to visit the Tucker side of the family. We experienced lots of snow as we enjoyed time with family and friends we had not seen for several years. I also had the opportunity to visit my nephews' schools and collect more ideas to enhance and improve our safety features on our campus as we continue with renovation plans to the school entrance. This construction will hopefully begin right after the last day of school. Due to the cold temperatures here over the break, the installation of the new fence/gate near the gym was delayed. This will hopefully be completed by the end of this week. In addition, we will soon begin a nice upgrade to the counter / cabinets in the Art Room. Finally, as mentioned in my letter last week, Parker has gone out of business. Saint Andrew is well prepared for this change. As soon as decisions are made regarding a new vendor, you will be notified. So many exciting changes for Saint Andrew Catholic School in 2018!

Only By His Grace,
Veronica Tucker

COLD WEATHER INFORMATION
During cold weather girls may wear solid navy or white leggings or solid navy or white tights.  Socks must be worn with leggings, but are optional with tights. If socks are worn with tights or leggings, they must be the same color.  The only outerwear allowed to be worn in the classrooms are school sweatshirts, sweaters or the school fleece.

Per diocesan policy, we must have indoor recess if the temperature with the wind-chill is 40 degrees or below. Please send your students with coats and hats when the temperatures are low. It is always the goal of the teachers to get the kids outside to get some wiggles and energy out.

FROM THE NURSES' DESK
Welcome back!  We hope your break was restful and relaxing.  As you may have heard, or possibly experienced during the break, the Flu is in full swing. There have been reports of a 600% increase in flu cases from November to January.  You may be worried about keeping your kids healthy, we are too!  We want your students to be at their best when at school.  We just have a few reminders and suggestions for you: W

1.  Get a FLU shot- while we can not force you to get one, it does significantly reduce your risk of getting the flu.  And NO, the flu vaccine does not cause the flu.  While this years vaccine has only shown to be 10% effective it still reduces your risk if exposed, also reports have shown time and time again that those who do get a flu shot and get the flu often have less severe symptoms.

2.  Encourage frequent hand washing, or use of hand sanitizer.

3.  Please remind your children to cover their mouths and noses when they cough or sneeze using a tissue or their elbows. It is a good way to help prevent the spread of germs.

4.  If your child has been home sick here are a few reminders of the guidelines that indicate when he or she can return to class: fever free for 24 hours (without the aid of fever reducers), no vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours. For the full list of guidelines please refer to the Health Guidelines tab on the Saint Andrew webpage.
