News for the Parents of Saint Andrew Catholic School
August 29, 2017
FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

We ask that you join us in our prayers for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and those continuing to deal with its storms and its aftermath. In solidarity with our sister schools in the Archdiocese of Galveston - Houston, we will host a "Casual for a Cause" event this Friday. Students (and faculty/staff) will have the opportunity to wear jeans and/or tennis shoes with their school shirts or Spirit shirts. Suggested minimum donation is $2.00. If you are in a position where you can give more, additional support would be greatly appreciated. We will make certain these funds reach the Catholic Schools Office in Galveston - Houston. As usual, please follow the guidelines in the handbook. Jeans worn must be nice (not baggy, saggy, ragged, tight, torn or low-cut). Thank you, in advance, for your generosity. Donations will be collected in homerooms.  (Please send cash or checks made out to Saint Andrew Catholic School.)

Almighty God,
We come to you with a heavy heart for Houston and all those communities affected by this storm.
We humbly submit to your will and ask for you to be a beacon of hope among the wreckage.
Grant safety to the men, women, and children navigating the dangerous flood waters.
Grant strength to those providing shelter and aid for their communities.
Grant unshakable peace and rid this storm's victims of the spirit of fear.
Show us all how to respond to the needs of those who are struggling, that we may serve you well through your son Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Only By His Grace,
Veronica Tucker

MESSAGE FROM THE NURSES

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year. So far this year has been great.  Just a few reminders from the nurses:
  1. If you are new to St. Andrew this year please make sure you have submitted the Health/Physical form to the nurses' office.  All forms must be received by 9-5.
  2. If there are any new health concerns for your student please be sure to email the nurse so we can be aware.  For instance:  food allergies, medications taken, asthma, migraines, and any other health concerns.  It is important we have this information in case of emergency.
  3. If your child has medication that he or she needs to take on a daily basis or an as needed basis while at school, a medication permit (a separate form for each medication) MUST be completed and signed by the parent AND the physician in order to keep the medication in the clinic. Students are NOT allowed to keep medications on their person during school. This includes over the counter medications like Tylenol and Motrin and allergy medications, sunscreen, etc.
We are looking forward to a great year and the opportunity to get to know you and your children.

Sincerely,
Nurses Russell and Felder

PARENT-TEACHER PRAYER PARTNERS

Have you ever visited the school lunchroom or looked around at dismissal and thought, "I don't know how these teachers and staff do it!" They are a true Godsend and praying for them is one of the simplest ways to fortify them in their work.

Sign up to be a parent-teacher/staff prayer partner and they will also be praying for you! Many more prayer enthusiasts are needed for this special ministry and parents (moms and dads), grandparents and friends are strongly encouraged to volunteer.

Who doesn't need a few extra prayers? Plus it only takes a minute of your day. We will partner you with a member of the school team, provide a prayer card as a visual reminder and send occasional tips for new ways to pray and deepen your faith.

I f you are called to volunteer, please email Monica Swaim

NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY

What is North Texas Giving Day (NTGD)?
North Texas Giving Day is Communities Foundation of Texas' annual 18-hour online giving extravaganza for North Texas nonprofits that is powered by creative nonprofits, social media activism, area wide collaboration, and of course you!  North Texas Giving Day's goal is to help build awareness and support for nonprofits in the North Texas region.

When is NTGD?
North Texas Giving Day is Thursday, September 14th from 6:00am - Midnight.

New This Year
Donors can schedule their gifts before North Texas Giving Day! Scheduled giving opens on September 7 at 8:00am and goes through September 13 at midnight!
Did a donor forget to schedule their gift? No worries! Donors can always give on September 14th from 6am - midnight!

Donations to the Annual Fund can be made on NTGD.
Saint Andrew's Annual Fund will be part of this day of giving again this year.  If you give any donation to SAS on this day on NorthTexasGivingDay.org your gift will be multiplied and SAS will be eligible for many prizes.  Please mark your calendar now.

Just a gentle reminder NTXGIVING DAY will not allow any non-profit to give anything free for any donation on that site.  So our Annual Fund leadership level of $2000 or above can not be credited that day.  So if you are giving at that level please only give a small amount on NTXGIVING DAY and then give the rest through SAS by cash, check, or credit card.  THANK YOU.

GARAGE SALE

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23

After a several-year hiatus, Saint Andrew School has decided to bring back the garage sale in an effort to raise more money as part of the Fall Festival.  We believe that the garage sale can be a BIG success with your help.  That table that you've been meaning to put on Craigslist for a couple of years?  Those clothes that your child has outgrown?  We will take them off of your hands and make money for SAS in the process! The items we are seeking for donation are as follows:
  • Clothes, Shoes, Coats and other wearable items
  • Purses and Bags
  • Toys and Games
  • Sports items
  • Furniture
  • Children's books
All items should be clean and in good condition. Please ONLY donate items that are sellable.  The garage sale will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Saint Andrew Gym from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Donations will be accepted at the Saint Andrew Gym stage from 7:30-8:30am and 2:15-3:30pm on:
Monday, September 11
Thursday, September 14
Monday, September 18

Bulk drop-off will be at the same location on Friday, September 22 from 12:30-8:00 p.m.

At the time of drop-off we will provide a tax donation form.  If for any reason you cannot bring items that you are willing to donate to the gym at that time, please call Josh Borsellino at 817.908.9861 and he will arrange to pick the items up at a time that is convenient to you.  Please contact one of our 2017  Fall Festival chairs with any questions.
