News for the Parents of Saint Andrew Catholic School
September 12, 2017
FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

Your children have made it through the second day of testing! Hooray! Please applaud your students for their efforts this week. Testing week can be stressful and anxiety-inducing. While all of our teachers encourage all students to do their best, say a prayer, and check their work, many worry about the results. Know that, as a school, we primarily use these results to make school-wide curriculum and professional development decisions to drive instruction for the remainder of the year. By administering the test in the fall, we can make immediate proactive decisions that meet our ultimate goal of improving student learning.

Remind your students that I am so very proud of them too. Keep up the early bedtimes, healthy breakfasts and positive attitude!

Only By His Grace,
Veronica Tucker

SUPPORT SAS
NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY

When is NTGD?
Donate on North Texas Giving Day, Thursday, September 14th from 6:00am - Midnight.

New This Year
Donors can schedule their gifts before North Texas Giving Day! Scheduled giving opens on September 7 at 8:00am and goes through September 13 at midnight!

Donations to the Annual Fund can be made on NTGD.
Saint Andrew's Annual Fund will be part of this day of giving again this year.  If you give any donation to SAS on this day on NorthTexasGivingDay.org your gift will be multiplied and SAS will be eligible for many prizes and bonus funds.  Please mark your calendar now.

Just a gentle reminder NTXGIVING DAY will not allow any non-profit to give anything free for any donation on that site.  So our Annual Fund leadership level of $2000 or above can not be credited that day.  So if you are giving at that level please only give a small amount on NTXGIVING DAY and then give the rest through SAS by cash, check, or credit card.  THANK YOU.

"WILD WILD WEST" BOOK FAIR

Our "Wild Wild West" Book Fair will begin Friday, September 15th, and run through Friday, September 22nd, from 7:30am-3:30pm in the library each day.   This book fair is a fundraiser for our 8th graders and their end-of-year activities.

It would not be possible without our parent volunteers. THANK YOU to all our volunteers who have already signed up!  We still have a lot of shifts to fill.

As a volunteer, you can sign up to help the little ones complete their wish lists (Friday, the 15th), help with the cash registers (they are really very easy to learn and easy to use!), help during BookNic, which will be very busy, and/or help set up or tear down the book fair.  This is a great way to
get involved and it's fun!    Please sign-up here.  Please feel free to sign up for as many shifts as you want!  Thank you!

BookNic
Parents and/or grandparents are invited to join us during one of our BookNic events.  Bring a blanket, have lunch with your child in the courtyard, and then visit our book fair.

GARAGE SALE
Benefitting the Fall Festival
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23

After a several-year hiatus, Saint Andrew School has decided to bring back the garage sale in an effort to raise more money as part of the Fall Festival.  We believe that the garage sale can be a BIG success with your help.  That table that you've been meaning to put on Craigslist for a couple of years?  Those clothes that your child has outgrown?  We will take them off of your hands and make money for SAS in the process! The items we are seeking for donation are as follows:
  • Clothes, Shoes, Coats and other wearable items
  • Purses and Bags
  • Toys and Games
  • Sports items
  • Furniture
  • Children's books
All items should be clean and in good condition. Please ONLY donate items that are sellable.  The garage sale will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Saint Andrew Gym from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Donations will be accepted at the Saint Andrew Gym stage from 7:30-8:30am and 2:15-3:30pm on:
Monday, September 11
Thursday, September 14
Monday, September 18

Bulk drop-off will be at the same location on Friday, September 22 from 12:30-8:00 p.m.

At the time of drop-off we will provide a tax donation form.  If for any reason you cannot bring items that you are willing to donate to the gym at that time, please call Josh Borsellino at 817.908.9861 and he will arrange to pick the items up at a time that is convenient to you.

Please click here to volunteer on Saturday, September 23.

Please contact one of our 2017  Fall Festival chairs with any questions.

FROM THE NURSES' DESK
If your child has medication that he or she needs to take on a daily basis or an as needed basis while at school, a medication permit (a separate form for each medication) MUST be completed, signed by the parent AND the physician in order to keep the medication in the clinic. Students are NOT allowed to keep ANY medications on their person during school. This includes over the counter medications like Tylenol and Motrin and allergy medications, sunscreen, etc.  This is for the safety of all our students and staff; as the student's condition needs to be assessed prior to dispensing medications.

Please click here for a copy of the Medication Permit.

FALL FESTIVAL RAFFLE TICKETS
Extra Raffle Tickets are available in the Front Office or you can click here to buy your tickets online.

BOX TOPS
General Mills wanted to create a program to help support education and benefit America's schools - and so, Box Tops for Education™ was born.   By clipping Box Tops SAS can earn cash to buy things such as books, computers, playground equipment and more.  Collecting Box Tops is a fun and easy way to make money for our school. Each one is worth a dime for our school.

You can find Box Tops on hundreds of products throughout the grocery store and online.  Please click here  for  a list of participating products. Box Tops can be dropped off in the front office.

To find coupons for the General Mills products please click here .

We are no longer accepting Campbell Soup Labels. Campbell has discontinued this program.

PARENT-TEACHER PRAYER PARTNERS

Have you ever visited the school lunchroom or looked around at dismissal and thought, "I don't know how these teachers and staff do it!" They are a true Godsend and praying for them is one of the simplest ways to fortify them in their work.

Sign up to be a parent-teacher/staff prayer partner and they will also be praying for you! Many more prayer enthusiasts are needed for this special ministry and parents (moms and dads), grandparents and friends are strongly encouraged to volunteer.

Who doesn't need a few extra prayers? Plus it only takes a minute of your day. We will partner you with a member of the school team, provide a prayer card as a visual reminder and send occasional tips for new ways to pray and deepen your faith.

I f you are called to volunteer, please email Monica Swaim

FELLOWSHIP & ROSARY

A group of parents meets weekly for fellowship and to pray the rosary on Monday afternoons.  We meet at 2:30pm in the faculty room.  Please contact Jeanne Murphy,  [email protected],  for more information or to be included on a Monday reminder text.

SAFE & SACRED
The Diocese of Fort Worth requires all adults who volunteer at our school to satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, complete Safe & Sacred (Safe Environment) training, and agree to the Code of Conduct every three years. Currently the process is done online.

If you would like to drive on a field trip, volunteer in the classroom, help at a class party, help at the Fall Festival, etc., please email  Lisa Harrington to begin the process.

We appreciate your willingness to volunteer!!

MARIAN STATUES
The Spiritual Life Committee at Saint Andrew Catholic School offers two blessed statues to its families:  A statue of Rosa Mystica and an Immaculate Heart of Mary Statue. Each week (from Wednesday afternoon to the following Wednesday morning) two families will have the opportunity to take these statues home and use them as a source of inspiration, prayer and reflection. The tote bag containing the statue will also have suggested prayers. This special tradition will hopefully be one full of meaning and faith for each of you. Click here to sign up.    Email Karen Schroder, SAS parent for questions.

MEN'S SCRIPTURE STUDY

Last year we had 50+ men attend a scripture study on Tuesdays or Saturdays for  The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation  study from Ascension Press.  This year join us as we walk through the gospel of Matthew with the  Matthew:  The King and His Kingdom  program (Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm or Saturday mornings at 6:30am) or learn how to pray with Psalms:  The School of Prayer  (Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm).  All groups meet in the Parish Hall.  Contact  Jim Riney  or   Paul Bernardy  with questions or register with the links below.
