NATIONAL SPEECH WINNERS IN SAUSD  

Congratulations to our very own Advanced Learning Academy for winning the National Championship for Speech in the Middle School Division and our entire Intermediate Speech and Debate program for winning the National School of Excellence Speech Award at the National Speech and Debate Competition last week in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

 Thanks to Sal Tinajero, SAUSD Program Specialist who oversees the program, the Kiwanis Club for their consistent partnership and support of the program, and the teachers, coaches, and parents who are dedicated and passionate about SAUSD students' success.
 
NEW ROOSEVELT-WALKER COMMUNITY CENTER RIBBON CUTTING 
 
Santa Ana is home to a brand new community center thanks to a partnership with the Santa Ana Unified School District and the City of Santa Ana. On Monday, June 25, 2018, members of the Board of Education and City Council, were joined with representatives from the State, staff members, students, parents, and neighbors to cut the ribbon to the new Roosevelt-Walker Joint Use Community Center.

The new center will offer preschool classes, self-enrichment classes, workshops, events, an e-library, and plenty of recreation. It is located at 816 East Chestnut Avenue.  
SAUSD STUDENTS ENJOYING SUMMER LEARNING

Summer learning is in full swing in SAUSD where students have been participating in a variety of summer programs to stay engaged.

From Visual and Performing Arts to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math to internships throughout the City of Santa Ana and beyond at such companies as JPL NASA, located in Pasadena, our students are maximizing the opportunity to learn while having fun.
 

SADDLEBACK SPECIAL GUESTS OF HOUSTON ROCKETS' JAMES HARDEN

Members of the Saddleback High School Boys and Girls Basketball teams spent last Sunday with Houston Rockets' James Harden, other NBA players, and celebrities as part of Saddleback's partnership with Adidas. Students were surprised with the gift of their own custom shoes and the opportunity to customize their uniforms and shoes for the upcoming season.


BOARD HIGHLIGHTS    
 
The Board approved the District's Local Control Accountability Plan and 2018-19 Budget.

The Board also approved a resolution proclaiming July 22, 2018, as National Parents' Day in the District.

ENGAGE 360 STUDENTS FEATURED IN VIDEO

Imagine being able to create your own app. Students from McFadden, Sierra, and Villa Fundamental Intermediate schools Engage 360 program were able to create their own apps as part of the AppJam+ program. Students explained their unique products at the Showcase Finale at UC Irvine. Click here to view the video.

COMMUNITY INVITED TO ATTEND SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE OF SHREK FEATURING SAUSD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

More than 150 singers, actors, instrumentalists, dancers and technical students representing all SAUSD high schools will show off their talent during a production of Shrek. "This is so much more than a musical. It's an opportunity for our students to express themselves through drama, singing, music and dance. Watching them practice their crafts is like watching their souls blossom," said Robyn McNair, Curriculum Specialist for Visual and Performing Arts.
