SAUSD CELEBRATES 2018 HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES WITH #30DAYSOFSAUSDGRADS CAMPAIGN

The Santa Ana Unified School District will celebrate the class of 2018 this month as graduating seniors conclude their educational journey in SAUSD and take part in their school's graduation ceremonies.

I n honor of the class of 2018, SAUSD is featuring #30daysofSAUSDgrads each day on social media and through an e-blast to staff. Each week, some of our outstanding seniors will be featured in the e-blast as another avenue to share their successes. 


SANTA ANA HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARS RECEIVE FULL RIDE FROM JOHN AND JOAN HYDE SCHOLARSHIP

Congratulations to Monserrat Alegria and Cristina Arroyo of Santa Ana High School for being selected recipients of the John and Joan Hyde Scholarship.

The students will be attending UCLA and USC in the fall, and their college tuition will be paid in full for all four years thanks to the generosity of the Hyde family.

Each year, the Hyde family awards well-deserving scholars at Santa Ana High School with this scholarship.

GODINEZ GRAD HEADED TO STANFORD IN THE FALL

A naturally gifted student in the realm of mathematics, Angel Ramirez of Godinez Fundamental High School, will study Bio-Chemistry at Stanford University in the fall. Angel took part in NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory summer program, which left a profound mark on him going into the next stage of his education.

His goal is to cure diseases in the future and hopes to use Stanford's undergraduate research opportunities to further his knowledge in this area.

Angel is also a scholar athlete, running in Cross-Country and Track for Godinez. #30daysofSAUSDgrads
 
CULINARY ARTS TEAM IN HIGH SCHOOL INC. PROGRAM AT VALLEY WIN REGIONAL COMPETITION

Congratulations to Valley High School Culinary Arts Team with High School Inc. for clinching 1st place for the fourth time at the Regional Cooking Up Change competition. 

The team developed a delicious dish that got the attention and approval of the judges. They also received an award for the best afternoon snack.

The dynamic team will now head to Washington, D.C. to compete in the national competition.

SANTA ANA PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION AWARDS OVER $163,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS  OVER PAST FEW YEARS

A very special feeling was in the room April 11, 2018, as the Santa Ana Public Schools Foundation (SAPSF) presented their scholarship awards for the Class of 2018.

Over 30 students were presented with a personalized medallion, certificate and check. Over the past several years, the Foundation has awarded over $163,000 in college scholarships to Santa Ana Unified School District students. In addition to the SAPSF awards, three students received the Nancy Diaz Miller Award. The husband of the late Mrs. Miller said out of 67 applicants, three students embodied the character of the retired SAUSD administrator. Additionally, six students received the Santa Ana Retired Administrator Scholarship.
BEST BUDDIES PROM BRINGS JOY TO STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Students at Santa Ana High School had the time of their lives at the Best Buddies Prom, specifically designed for students who have special needs. Students dressed up, enjoyed good food, and danced the night away to some of their favorite popular songs.

MONTE VISTA ADOPTED BY ANGELS

The Angels have chosen Monte Vista Elementary School to be one of its Adopted Elementary Schools. To celebrate Monte Vista joining the Angels' family, students and staff received a visit from Angels Pitcher JC Ramirez, who talked to them, took photos and signed autographs.

 

Monte Vista will receive $2,000, Angels tickets to be used as incentives for students, school supplies, and a banner to hang at the school. 

 

 

CHAVEZ CIRCULOS STUDENTS PRESENT AT EDUCATION & ETHNIC STUDIES SUMMIT AT CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY

At the invitation of Chapman University, a student of Círculos at Chavez High School was invited to present at the the 3rd Annual Education & Ethnic Studies Summit.

Supported by Professor Noah Golden, and their Curator of Learning Experiences Ms. Arlyn Shelton, the students presented a PowerPoint about how Círculos is helping "systems" to rethink high school.

Assistant Superintendent Daniel Allen came to support and add his perspective on how Círculos is rethinking high school, and what Círculos does on a daily basis to educate effectively and powerfully the most marginalized students in the District. He was joined by Principal Matt Cruz.

Those that attended the session engaged in a discussion affirming the work of Círculos, and shared their enthusiasm for the work.  
STILL TIME TO ENROLL IN DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAMS FOR 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR

The Santa Ana Unified School District is now accepting and enrolling new students for the Dual Language Immersion Programs at five elementary schools including Jefferson, King, Lowell, Pio, Pico, and Romero-Cruz.

By enrolling children in a dual language program, children will have a competitive edge in our global society and be able to successfully compete in the top jobs of today and tomorrow. For more information, please contact the English Learners department directly at (714) 558-5855. 
 
The Dual Language Immersion Spanish Program begins on some campuses as early as preschool and continues through 8th grade at Carr and McFadden intermediate schools. Some campuses offer full day and part-time for preschool, TK, and Kindergarten classes.
KING RECEIVES $10,000 GRANT FROM TARGET TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR BACK TO SCHOOL

King Elementary School will receive a $10,000 grant from Target stores to help 100 students secure the school supplies and clothing they need before the new school year begins.  

Each student will receive a $100 budget to shop at the Target Store on Bristol near the school. "This is great news! Our students will benefit from this wonderful opportunity," said Eleanor Rodriguez, Principal of King Elementary.
