This summer the SAYL Staff is diving into Jim Trelease's "The Read Aloud Handbook." This book is not just for teachers or just for parents. It is for anyone who cares about literacy and reading to children!  Trelease takes the simple question of "Why we should read aloud?" and translates the answer to an easy read discussion for all those who care about children and literacy.   Read More >>

Our June Volunteers of the Month - Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity!

Edwin Miles brought Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity to partner with SAYL at Windcrest Elementary and created a successful relationship from the very beginning. Under Edwin's leadership, the Fraternity's volunteers proved to be dedicated and enthusiastic Reading Buddies for our second graders. June Site Directors of the Month from Windcrest ES!
Windcrest Elementary partnered with San Antonio Youth Literacy for the first time for the 2014-2015 school year.  The Co-Site Directors, Family Specialist Melissa Gutierrez-Aleman and Instructional Coach Denise Holland, met with SAYL staff over the summer to plan for the school year. From that very first meeting, Melissa and Denise were committed to making this partnership thrive for the good of the students.  Read More >>
