Riders Requested and SB100 Responds with
New 100km Course with Gibraltar Climb
Santa Barbara, Calif. - August 24, 2016 - The Santa Barbara 100 (SB100) presented by Silver Air, Santa Barbara’s premier cycling event, has announced a new 100-km course option featuring the SB100 Gibraltar Challenge up Santa Barbara’s iconic Gibraltar Road. Gibraltar Road is a well-known route among the local cycling community, popularized by events such as the recent Amgen Tour of California.
With the addition of the new course, the SB100 now offers four options through one of the most beautiful and challenging cycling locations in the United States, with skill levels ranging from beginner to expert. Courses include the traditional 100-mile century ride as well as the standard 100-km course, the 34-mile option, and the all-new 100-km course featuring the Gibraltar Wealth Management Challenge.
Both the 100-mile and new 100-km plus Gibraltar course feature the Gibraltar Wealth Management Challenge time trial, a seven mile segment up Gibraltar Road. Time trial winners in men and women’s categories receive the iconic King of the Mountain SB100 rider’s jersey. Prizes will also be awarded in the team time trial category. All SB100 course entries include access to seven aid stations, start to finish time tracking, a technical shirt, gourmet lunch and beer garden at the finish line.
“We had so many riders ask for a shot at the Gibraltar Challenge in an abbreviated course, we just had to add this new route this year,” said Tricia Middleton, Santa Barbara 100 Marketing and Sponsorship Director. “Gibraltar Road is an iconic and grueling climb that attracts riders from all over the U.S. for the challenge and for the views.”
The Santa Barbara 100 is a national non-profit 501c(3) organization with the goal of raising more than $100,000 and donating all proceeds from the event. To see the full list of charities visit http://sb100.org/charities.html.
