THE STANWOOD CAMANO ARTS GUILD
and
GUILDED GALLERY UPDATE

Unlike many arts communities I've known, the Stanwood Camano arts community is strong on fellowship, and understands that the pursuit of art is a celebration, not a competition. We share the losses and the gains, and work constantly to bring art and artfulness  to our community. This years CAA Mother's Day Tour marks one of the high points in this pursuit. Stop by the gallery to pick up a map on your way to the Island, and begin your Tour enjoying the artwork of over 20 guild artists in our cooperative, non-profit gallery. Discover for yourself why art lives here!

A GUILDED GALLERY IS NUMBER 32 ON THE MOTHER'S DAY TOUR

Four of our  members have been chosen from over twenty gallery artists to have their work featured
during the Tour.

Examples of their work can be seen below

POTTERY BY SALLY CHANG

Besides being an excellent potter, Sally is our Guild Secretary and keeper of our minutes. She also works in natural fibers, weaving and knitting.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY TERENCE RABBITT

A relatively new but very involved gallery member , and a great
photographer. This is landscape photography at it best.

WATERCOLORS BY SYLVIA DOMOTO

Sylvia is our gallery bookkeeper and financial problem solver.
We can't figure out how she has time to paint such wonderful watercolors.

STAINED GLASS BY BEVERLY REAUME

One of our gallery's founding members and the guilds bookkeeper, Bev has artwork in the gallery year around that stands out because of its originality and high quality.

HALLIE PRICE is Featured Artist for May and June

May 9th, 4:00 until 6:00 pm, A GUILDED GALLERY will hold a reception for Hallie and her "almost abstract art."  Distinctive in both color and design, Hallie's artwork expresses her varied and  changing view of what's in front of her, but always with a light touch and sense of humor. Visit with Hallie, see her artwork, and enjoy some snacks and great conversation to end the first day of the Tour.

ENTER A RAFFLE TO WIN THIS LARGE, BEAUTIFULLY FRAMED WATERCOLOR BY NATIONALLY KNOWN ARTIST AND AUTHOR, TONY COUCH.
Great, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will also be awarded in a drawing this June. See our website or visit the gallery for details and tickets

Gail Merrick, Stanwood High School's influential and involved art teacher, introduced this years winners of SCAG's  scholarships at our last meeting. Amara Mulhall, and Andi Hillman each earned  $500  toward their majors in the arts.

THE GREATER MARYSVILLE ARTS GUILD

Is having their 2nd annual plein air painting competition on July 25th. Join other artists as they spend a day painting outside and competing for prize money. Deadline for registration is July 12. See our website for an application. www.stanwoodcamanoarts.com.

Because our last meeting was preceded by a "Come back again" party for Bill and Bev Paulson, we had one of the most attended meetings yet. Though we hated to say goodbye to this much loved and celebrated  couple, we are now looking for other members to send on their way in hopes of increasing meeting attendance.

Perhaps the weather has dampened the interest of plein air painters as a new group of outside artists is attempting to form. The May 7th meeting has been cancelled, in hopes that their yard work will be caught up and they can get back to painting. Stay tuned for details.

JOHN DELZELL died April 26th, 2015

Even many words will not express the loss felt by this arts community. John left an amazing trail for us to follow.
