Help us #FillTheField at  The 2017 Spring Games

Join us this Friday, April 28 for the 2017 Spring Games Opening Ceremonies, our official kick-off to a full week of competitive track and field events. The event will take place at the iconic Soldier Field, the location of the inaugural Special Olympics Games 49 years ago, beginning at 10am with the Parade of Athletes.

Congratulations to Southside Occupational High School who will be awarded the Keith Magnuson Spirit Award as well as Chicago Park District Superintendent & CEO, Mike Kelly, who will receive the Anne McGlone Burke Award for his ongoing support of our program.  We're also thrilled to have former Chicago Cub pitcher, Sean Marshall, join us as this year's Honorary Coach and look forward to our athletes h aving the opportunity to    see the World Series trophy as part of our parade!

We are grateful for continued community involvement and thank these wonderful partners for their generous support:  Wintrust, Subway, Chicago White Sox,  Bank of America,  Peoples Gas, Jones Lang LaSalle, iHeart Radio/WGCI, Advanced Resources, East Lake Management and United Airlines.

A huge shout-out to the hundreds of volunteers dedicated to providing our athletes with a great start to what we know will be a memorable week.
Then & Now: Athletes competing at the inaugural Games in 1968 and at a recent Spring Games Track & Field event.

We hope you can join us for this incredible opportunity to return to the site of the very first Games and help us to build a community of inclusion and acceptance for all.  Admission and parking are free.

All are welcome to also cheer on our athletes at the actual Spring Games Track & Field events at Eckersall Stadum May 1-5. Events will include, among others: distance races ranging from 50 - 1500 meters, standing long jump, walk races, and the pentathlon. The week will also feature wheelchair events: races of varying distances, shot put, slalom, and softball and tennis ball throw.

Athlete Spotlight: Gymnastics

Our athletes excelled at our annual Gymnastics event! 200 superstars gathered at Broadway Armory to compete in the following events, with some also participating in their respective all-around competition.

Male events included
Floor exercise, vault, rings, pommel horse, and parallel bars

Female events included
Floor exercise, vault, balance beam, ribbon, and ball

Though focused on their individual performances, athletes always take time to cheer on their fellow superstars and display continued great sportsmanship. Congratulations to all of our all-star participants! Special thanks to Girl Scouts who came out to support the athletes.
