Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography Announces New 2016-2017 President and Leadership Team

Vienna, VA (July 28, 2016) - The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) is pleased to announce Leslee J. Shaw, PhD, FSCCT as the new SCCT 2016-2017 President, as well as the 2016-2017 SCCT Executive Committee and Board.

Dr. Shaw is Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, Co-Director of the Emory Clinical Cardiovascular Research Institute and Director of Women's Health Research. She is a leading cardiovascular outcomes researcher whose major focus is clinical diagnosis and management of stable ischemic heart disease including the appropriate and effective use of cardiovascular CT.

Dr. Shaw has published over 550 papers, book chapters, abstracts and other scientific contributions, with many presentations at major scientific meetings worldwide. Dr. Shaw is noted by Thomson Reuters as among the top 1% of clinical researchers who have been most cited in clinical medicine over the past decade. She is a member of the Emory University MilliPub Club (awarded for a publication that is cited ≥1,000 times) and received the Albert E. Levy Scientific Research Award, Emory University's highest research award, in 2014. In 2015, Dr. Shaw received Emory University School of Medicine's highest award-the Dean's Distinguished Faculty Lecture and Award.

"We are at a great juncture for cardiovascular computed tomography," says Dr. Shaw. "There is not only increasing excitement about our modality, but tremendous progress in the evidence supporting the widespread utilization of coronary computed tomography angiography (coronary CTA). I know that we will continue to make progress in multiple areas and develop strategies to improve the lives of our patients."

Dr. Shaw succeeds Immediate Past President, Jonathon A. Leipsic, MD, FSCCT. Dr. Leipsic is the Chairman of the Department of Radiology for Providence Health Care and the Vice Chairman of Research for the University of British Columbia Department of Radiology and is Associate Professor of Radiology and Cardiology with the University of British Columbia.

Under Dr. Leipsic's leadership as President, SCCT significantly expanded its educational offerings and clinical guidelines development, during a time when major clinical trials have increasingly demonstrated the effectiveness of cardiovascular CT in diagnosing cardiovascular disease and planning effective treatments. During that time, SCCT published CAD-RADSTM a new system to standardize reporting of patients undergoing CCTA worldwide. With lead author Ricardo C. Cury, MD, FSCCT, both Drs. Leipsic and Shaw played important roles in development of CAD-RADS.

SCCT thanks Dr. Leipsic, as well as the 2015-2016 SCCT leadership for their dedication and commitment.
