CEO Transition

Looking back on the past few years as CEO of the SCMR, I take great satisfaction in the success that the Society has achieved, and am grateful for having been given this opportunity to help advance the field of CMR. I am proud of the many new initiatives the SCMR has ramped up to improve the member experience and increase the impact of the Society. While this has been a highly rewarding role for me, I have reached a stage where I must make a choice between my position as CEO and my passion for science, and I have decided to resume my full-time dedication to research at The Ohio State University. I will be stepping down from my position as CEO of the SCMR following the 2019 Scientific Sessions.

I will do everything in my power to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of projects and communication, and I am actively engaged in assisting the Executive Committee in their search for a new CEO.  I can assure you that, thanks to the efforts of our member volunteers, the Society leadership, and headquarters staff, the SCMR is on a strong course forward to continue to grow and advance the field of CMR on multiple fronts, and I plan to remain an active volunteer to help continue this progress. JCMR Article-Processing Charges Update 

Since transitioning the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (JCMR) to an Open Access publication in 2008, the JCMR Impact Factor has steadily risen, with JCMR now ranked among the top tier of medical imaging journals! The current JCMR Article Publication Charge (APC) is $2,500 with full APC coverage for articles submitted by SCMR members. Over the years, this has represented a substantial and increasing annual cost to the Society, yet directly benefits a very small percentage of the overall SCMR membership.

The Board of Trustees has therefore decided that the SCMR will now share the APC costs and set the APC for articles submitted by SCMR members at $500 (80% off the full $2500 APC). This new charge will go into effect for all articles submitted on or after July 1, 2018. More information is provided on the SCMR website.

Case of the Week
The diagnostic value of CMR in a patient with CHD and infectious endocarditis

A four-year old patient with pulmonary atresia and ventricular septal defect (PA/VSD) after surgical repair with Contegra conduit (bovine jugular vein graft, Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN) at the age of 2 years underwent repeated CMR scan under general anesthesia for evaluation of aortic regurgitation and assessment of left ventricular volumes.
