Thank you for being a member and we hope you choose to renew for 2017. The Membership Committee is tasked with reviewing the needs of the membership of the SCMR to ensure that they are met. This committee recently proposed several changes to the dues structure, including redefining "Trainee" members include medical students, residents, PhD students, and post-doctoral associates, instead of limiting this category to those in the first four years of their training. Reference Values of Cardiac Volumes, Dimensions, and New Functional Parameters by MR: A Multicenter, Multivendor Study
This is a multicenter, multivendor, multisoftware study on 308 healthy subjects aimed to define reference values of cardiac volumes and dimensions, normalized for age (from 15 to 80 years old), gender and body surface area. It provides also reference values of other functional and morphological parameters (such as sphericity index, longitudinal shortening, left ventricular-global function index, EDV/mass index, mass/thickness index and biventricular volume balance). The study was performed on the behalf of the working group "Applications of Magnetic Resonance" of Italian Society of Cardiology and its results can be transposed to clinical practice. Where to Measure Flow in the Aorta?
CMR is considered the gold standard of cardiac volumetric measurements. Flow in the aortic root is often measured at the sinotubular junction, even though placing the slice just above valve level may be more precise. It is unknown how much flow measurements vary at different levels in the aortic root and which level corresponds best to left ventricle volumetry.

CE-MARC 2: Cardiac MRI Avoids Unnecessary Angiograms in Suspected CAD
Initial investigation of patients with suspected coronary heart disease (CHD) using functional imaging - rather than guideline-directed care - resulted in significantly less unnecessary angiography, according to results of the CE-MARC 2 trial.
The findings, presented in a Hot Line session at ESC Congress 2016, and published simultaneously in JAMA, could have an important impact on referral rates for invasive coronary angiography, and potentially healthcare costs, said lead investigator John Greenwood, PhD, from the University of Leeds, in Leeds, United Kingdom.
