Promoting CMR Around the World

To achieve our mission, to improve cardiovascular health by advancing the field of CMR, SCMR has been active promoting the clinical value of CMR around the world. The International Outreach Committee, lead by Ron Jacob, has been active and recently presented at the following meetings:

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to present to help advance the field.

The SCMR Education Committee is excited to announce new CME courses covering Myocardial Disease
  • General CMR in Cardiomyopathy - 2.0 credits
  • Non-Ischemic Cardiomyopathy - 0.5 credits
  • Transplant Cardiomyopathy - 0.5 credits
  • Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) - 0.25 credits
  • Infiltrative Cardiomyopathy - 0.25 credits

CME course prices are discounted for members and don't forget past Scientific Session videos are always free. The committee is working on additional courses covering myocardial disease and congenital disease.

Cardiac MRI Improves Risk Stratification for STEMI Patients

The most recent guidelines for STEMI patients issued by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology ( click to review guidelines) recommend that clinicians factor in left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction quantification as part of their decision-making and risk stratification processes, according to the researchers. However, LV ejection fraction is heavily influenced by post-infarction stunning and compensatory hyperkinesis of noninfarcted myocardium, diminishing its usefulness as a prognostic marker. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Medical Imaging Drugs Advisory Committee (MIDAC) voted overwhelmingly on Friday to recommend that the agency revise prescribing information for MRI gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) to include a warning about gadolinium retention in certain organs and tissue. Myocardial Extracellular Volume Estimation by CMR Predicts Functional Recovery Following Acute MI

In the setting of reperfused acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the authors sought to compare prediction of contractile recovery by infarct extracellular volume (ECV), as measured by T1-mapping cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), with late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) transmural extent.
