Today's Ambassadors for Hope "bears" little resemblance to the one of a year ago!
|
Ambassadors for Hope is an organization that serves as a voice for the 1000 children in Lancaster County who have a parent in prison and often go unnoticed. About one year ago board member
Bob Cooper contacted the
SCORE Lancaster – Lebanon office in search of help for this non-profit that was struggling with critical organizational issues. Mentor
Tom Burgum took the call, and agreed to not only attend a meeting, but bring “one, or two people along.” He arrived with
Jerry Glenn, and
Bob Hadfield. This group of mentors has worked with Ambassadors of Hope for a year now, and have begun to be referred to as “the three wise men.”
Tom received a letter from Bob Cooper recently that reads “The result of our time together is a vision and mission statement that is understandable and workable, a board where each member shares ownership for the organization, and a committee structure that divides responsibilities. We also have a three-year plan and a process for evaluating our progress.”
More importantly they now have a foundation for growing an organization that is a life-line for children that often have no voice, and uncertain futures. There is no greater reward for the efforts of a SCORE mentor.

Alongside his father and brothers, Ben King founded Quarry View Construction) in 2008. Based on Amish values and work ethic, the Lancaster company’s unique vision marries traditional Amish craftsmanship with modern technology and innovative design. To date, Quarry View Construction has catered to agricultural, commercial, and residential customers by building everything from horse barns to new homes in nine states, including Massachusetts. In 2014, Quarry View Construction took SCORE’s Simple Steps for Starting course. Mentors helped develop and implement a marketing plan that successfully grew the business. Quarry View Construction developed a unique compensation model that rewards sales personnel based on the profitability of completed projects.
“The critical role Eric played in our business was as a mentor and guide. He was a sounding board for our ideas and the direction we wanted to take the company. SCORE provided insight into leadership, marketing, and branding.”
Ben King, President, Quarry View Construction
