The Annual Cape Cod SCORE Awards Breakfast will be held May 18, 2017, at the Old Yarmouth Inn in Yarmouth Port. The 2017 presentation of SCORE's Small Business Owner of the Year will be made to Mario Spindola of ohDeer Martha's Vineyard. The Small Business Champion Award will be presented to Nauset Disposal for their commitment to small business on the Cape. The presentation of the Chapter's Better Mousetrap Awards to 18 Cape & Islands small business owners as selected by their respective Chambers of Commerce will follow. Read more here.
The Blue Economy: Charting the region's economic future
While the Cape's financial life has always been tied to the water, recent years have seen a new effort to advance the maritime economy. The so-called Blue Economy ranges from old-fashioned oyster farming to high-tech marine robotics, from stand-up paddle boarding to commercial fishing, from whale-watching to wastewater treatment. Cape Youth Force now accepting grant proposals
The Cape Youth Force, part of The Cape Cod Foundation's Youth & Philanthropy Program, is now accepting grant proposals for 2017. The force's committee, a group of students from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School, will award a total of $1,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations that offer projects or programs that positively impact teens on Cape Cod. The application process is entirely online; proposals must be received by midnight on May 10, 2017. Read more here.
Plymouth 400 License Plate Auction starts April 19
Beginning this month, Massachusetts drivers will have the opportunity to secure a coveted low-numbered license plate while also supporting the 400th anniversary of one of the most historically significant moments in American history; the Mayflower voyage and the founding of Plymouth Colony. Numbers 1 through 99 of the 2020 Anniversary License Plate will be open to the public for online bidding beginning Wednesday, April 19, 2017. In addition to the first ninety-nine low numbers, ten additional plates representing historically significant dates will also be up for auction. All items will be open to public bidding via MyPlymouthPlate.org.
