Brevard County Begins Construction Phase II of Zoo Trail
Brevard County has begun construction on Phase II of the Brevard Zoo Linear Park Trail. The highly anticipated trail project will extend the facility an additional 1.93 miles of boardwalk and asphalt.

This community asset was funded via state and federal dollars through the Florida Department of Transportation and the Space Coast TPO. It will provide visitors and locals with a total of three miles of ADA accessible trail for cyclists, runners, and walkers to use for recreation, exercise, and transportation.

Phase I, the first 1.1 miles that was funded via a referendum passed by voters in November 2000, was completed in April 2014.

The Brevard Zoo Linear Park Trail, like so many trail and transportation projects, is a testament to multi-agency cooperation and community support being vital in pushing projects forward. The project would not have progressed thus far if it wasn’t for voter support and cooperation between the Space Coast TPO, Brevard County Board of County Commissioners, Florida Department of Transportation, the Brevard Zoo, and A. Duda & Sons. Phase II is anticipated to be complete in the winter of 2019.

Space Coast Area Transit Seeking
Volunteers for Transportation Support Program
Space Coast Area Transit (SCAT) provides public transportation to over 2 million riders on their “fixed route” or traditional bus service. But, did you know that SCAT provides services such as vanpools, paratransit services, and volunteer transportation support?

SCAT utilizes volunteers through a program called Volunteers in Motion, which assists thousands of frail and elderly individuals, who would otherwise be unable to live independently, use traditional transit. Program volunteers receive training by attending instructional classes, and are provided with state-of-the-art vehicles. Currently, 24 volunteers serve 275 clients, donating over 5,400 hours per year.
