Anthony R. Sapienza is the President/CEO of JA Apparel Corp. JA Apparel is the parent corporation of both the Joseph Abboud Manufacturing Corporation, formerly Riverside Manufacturing Corporation in New Bedford, MA and the JA Brands Group in New York City. Prior to their acquisition by J. W. Childs Associates of Boston, MA the companies were a division of GFT, the Turin, Italy based clothing company. Mr. Sapienza joined GFT in 1997 as President/COO of Riverside Mfg Corp. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President of Manufacturing for Joseph J. Pietrafesa Company from 1994 to 1997. He served as Vice President of Manufacturing for KGR Inc. in 1993. From 1973 to 1993 he held the position of Vice President of Manufacturing for Southwick/Grieco Brothers, Inc of Lawrence, MA.
For the past 25 years, Mr. Sapienza has had many civic and professional affiliations including the Merrimack Valley Private Industry Council, Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board, Mass Jobs Council, South Coast Learning Network, International Association of Clothing Designers and Executives, UNITE HERE National Retirement Fund and the New Bedford Economic Development Council.
Mr. Sapienza graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He also holds a Masters of Urban Affairs degree from Boston University.
Mr. Sapienza is fluent in Italian and served in the US Army Reserves from 1970-1976. He is married with two adult children.
