The month we have all been waiting for: Pheasant Season is here! I hope everyone was able to enjoy the youth opener and able to take the next generation outdoors. We are hours away from the resident opener and days away from the season opener! This time goes by fast, so take advantage of some time in the field and celebrate your successes with other passionate hunters at a local banquet.

Welcome SD Youth Opener!
As we get closer to the pheasant opener here in South Dakota, many of our chapters take advantage of the youth opener to introduce the next generation to our passion of being out in the field, chasing our favorite upland bird. Did you take advantage of this weekend?
Take the time and check our our Facebook page and all the chapters photos from this weekend! I want to thank all the volunteers, members, sponsors, families that took the time to create a spark for the outdoors to the next generation and to promote our mission. Without your grassroots help, this would not be possible.

"Come On...We're Pulling for Ya!
Nearly all of us started hunting or shooting with a mentor or close friend. If you think back, you can probably remember that person vividly. Today, your chapter and volunteers are taking on that mentoring role and changing the future by getting kids outdoors learning about shooting sports, hunting, and conservation. Your chapter can make a different through this print, "Come On... We're Pulling for Ya!" by David Barnhouse.

The Importance of Native Prairie
"This part of South Dakota was once part of the Tallgrass Prairie, so named because the dominant grasses like big bluestem, switchgrass, and Indiangrass can grow from 3 to 7 feet tall. Today less than 1% of the Tallgrass Prairie still exists."

State Meeting January 23-24th

Support our Legislative Action Fund
As everyone is talking about the future of our state bird here in South Dakota; Pheasants Forever has also invested heavily to do all that we can to keep great habitat on the ground. With the announcement of the Governors Task Force recommendations, the annual brood count, and the opening of the first ever PF Regional Office: we would not be able to make such a big impact on our state without the grassroots effort to make a difference. Thank you for all the chapters that have donated to the Legislative Action Fund. As we are still early into this fiscal year, it is not too late to help contribute. South Dakota has seen these contributions go to work and now is the most important time to help make a difference. If you have questions on how you can help, email me here.
