PF Endorses SD Governor's Work Group Recommendations
Pheasants Forever today endorsed the recommendations offered by the Habitat Work Group formed by South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard to address the state's pheasant declines. At the same time, the organization joined Governor Daugaard in calling for a long-term dedicated conservation fund to adequately execute the paln's major initiatives. As indicated in the report, funding for conservation is critical hurdle to successfully achieving the plan's habitat goals.

Field Report: SD Pheasant Numbers Increase, PF Seeking Long-Term Solutions
The South Dakota game, Fish & Parks has completed the annual pheasant brood survey and the results show a 76 percent increase in the statewide pheasants-per-mile index as compared to 2013. While thrilled with the report, Pheasants Forever remains focused on working with state conservation policy leaders in charting a road map to enhance upland habitat in South Dakota for long-term sustainability of pheasant hunting traditions.

While some may think the formula for producing pheasants is confusing or downright mysterious, science tells us weather and habitat are the two critical variables determining our pheasant population. Evidence by our 2014 Pheasant Hunting Forecast, positive weather patterns during the winter and spring seasons have assisted in population increases for most states.

Nearly all of us started hunting or shooting with a mentor or close friend. If you think back, you can probably remember that person vividly. Today, your chapter and volunteers are taking on that mentoring role and changing the future by getting kids outdoors learning about shooting sports, hunting, and conservation.
