SDA School Bonds With
the Queen Louise Home for Children
St Croix, VI  |  January, 2017

Staff and students at the St. Croix Seventh-day Adventist School are encouraged to love their neighbors as they love themselves.  In the past, they rose to the challenge and contributed to the acquisition of a public-address system for the school’s auditorium and were equally motivated to send funds for the construction of a school in India.  This year, they chose to support a local charitable organization, the Queen Louise Home for Children.

Such initiatives are spearheaded by the Bible Teacher of the school, Pastor Doval Kent, who emphasized: “We want to cultivate in our students the desire to help those who are in need, by making sacrifice[s].  The students were encouraged to give up some of their lunch monies [to] help those who are in need. We love to see kids helping kids.”

On January 30, 2017, the presentation was made by the school’s Student Council President, Tara Serrant, to Sigorney Creighton who represented the Home and is an alumna of the school.  Ms. Creighton, the Public Relations Officer for Lutheran Services of the Virgin Islands which manages the Queen Louise Home for Children, expressed appreciation: “We are always grateful when the community contributes to the home.  I encourage you to seek out others in the community who are in need of help and offer support.”

“Queen Louise” provides a haven and residential care for children in the Virgin Islands who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. The home offers temporary placement in a family setting where children receive unconditional love and support, tutoring and recreational activities, and general guidance.

Dr. Hamil Tobias, Principal of the St. Croix Seventh-day Adventist School, summarized the attainable ideals of the school: “As a school, we consider our duties much more than administering the work of the school from our desk. An integral part of our ministry is our reaching out to others and impacting their lives in a positive way.”  The school views this step as the beginning of a lasting relationship.
