Milestone Awards

It's that time of year where we are looking for dancers who have been dancing at SIMI DANCE CENTER for 3 years, 5 years or 10 years! Please let us know at the front desk if this applies to your dancer and we will put the dancer on the list! This will be something that is rewarded at recital but it is important for us to know as soon as possible.

Competitions & Conventions

Rainbow Dance Competition

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR WHERE COMPETITION SEASON IS UPON US! YAY! As most of you know the dancers have been assigned a dance sibling/older sister/brother. For our competition team, we believe that building friendships and having a support system is equally as important as learning the steps. To encourage this ideal, we created a buddy system aka Big Sister/Little Sister Big Brother/Little Brother Program. We have paired your dancer up with another dancer on the team. The idea of this pairing is to introduce your dancer to a new person on the team and give your dancer another cheerleader in the studio. It is not about fancy gifts, it is about the friendship. Here is how we are asking your dancer to participate. The list of buddies is posted on the SDC login site and at the front desk. Have your dancer look up their buddy. At the front desk is a "Getting to Know You" Sheet your dancer has filled these out and they are in a binder at the front desk. Throughout the year, encourage your dancer to support their buddy.

For each event, encourage your dancer to say "good luck" in person, write a letter, or make a card or make a gift (not necessary) for their buddy acknowledging their support. EX: Ruxin, Good Luck this weekend at KAR! I hope you enjoy your weekend competing and do fantastic in your dances. My favorite thing about competing is being on stage and performing! (Again this isn't about exchanging gifts, it is about supporting each other.) Just something that simple is fantastic.

Above all the interaction is most important. Each buddy should try to at least watch their ddy perform one time this year. We know that scheduling is difficult, so be creative, maybe you watch them at recital, Nationals, or one of the competitions. You don't need to stay at a competition until midnight, just watch at least one of their performances and cheer your buddy on! Tell them great job.

Note For Parents -Obviously we can't keep track of who sends letters, and who says hi....We know you are super busy as well. But please help us in encouraging your dancer to participate. It takes no more than 1 minute to have your dancer say good luck, and zero dollars for your dancer to create a homemade card and hand it to their buddy. Remember that your child should treat their buddy the way YOU hope your dancer's buddy will treat your child. The last thing we want is for kids to get no reply at all. And AGAIN, please never feel the need to spend money on this adventure. It doesn't mean that it is forbidden, we just want to make sure it is known, this is all about the thoughtfulness and friendship, not the dollars spent. :)

She's BACK!

A little exciting info that we have been dying to share with all of you......We have a new hip hop teacher coming to SDC next year. She is fantastic, personable, funny, and super swag. We are confident your dancers are going to be thrilled with the news.....

Yes, it's real life. Miss Lindsey Glick-Jones is moving back to LA in April. She will be around to help sub, teach privates and jump back onto our faculty in the summer. Her husband was offered a wonderful job opportunity at the ACE Hotel to move back to LA. They both miss the west coast (Lindsey Misses the kids and families at SDC like crazy) and decided that coming back would be the best for their future family life. So they decided it was happening. We are so excited to have her back for her talent but more importantly for the joy, jokes and love she adds to SDC.

Students of the Month
Elizabeth Hsu-Kwan
Elizabeth is such a pleasure to work with in class. She is a great listener, role model and has shown a lot of maturity for being just three years old. Elizabeth is respectful and an inspiration to her peers. Keep up the great work! We are so proud of you!

Avery Dionne
Avery is a new little dancer on our competition team. She is so sweet, soft spoken and is always very attentive. She has been selected as student of the month for coming out of her shy little shell. She has some of the best performance faces and energy! We love her shakies!!! She is such a wonderful listener and she has already accomplished so much in her time on our Crystal team. Congratulations Avery! We can't wait to watch you grow up!!!
