PROJECT UPDATE
The Lake Murray to Sweetwater Reservoir Pipeline 3 Relining Project will rehabilitate approximately 4 miles of 66-inch and 69-inch diameter pipe between Lake Murray and Sweetwater Reservoir. The project will extend the pipeline's service life and ensure continued water system reliability.

The San Diego County Water Authority appreciates your patience as we perform critical work to extend the pipeline's service life and ensure continued water system reliability. Project updates will be sent each month, or as-needed, to share timely information.
The new steel liners are delivered in a flatbed truck and inserted into the existing pipe using a specialized pipe cart. To view an animation of the relining process, click here .
Relining Begins!
Liners are being delivered and installed at Portals 3 and 5 and will soon begin at Portals 1, 2 and 10. Once the liners are installed, each segment is welded together along the seams/joints. Later, the space between the old pipe and the new liners is filled with grout and mortar is installed inside the liner to prevent corrosion. Each portal has a different schedule. Open During Construction
Although very close to major work areas, Sprouts Farmers Market, Burlington, El Torito and others nearby are open for business. The Water Authority is working to minimize impacts to all stakeholders including local businesses. Please continue to visit these important anchor stores in La Mesa.
Project signs are located along the project route with contact information.
Repurposing Portals
The contractor identified four portals that will not be needed for inserting liners. Portals 4, 6, 9 and 11 have been repurposed and will now serve primarily as pipeline access and staging areas for construction equipment and materials. Most construction activity will occur at the other portals.
