March 2018

Dear Sisters,

Happy 101st Birthday! As I reflect on my personal journey in our sorority, I am forever thankful for all that SDT has brought into my life, but especially the amazing friendships I've made. Whether it was my best friend from my own collegiate experience, or the women I've met while volunteering, I am blessed by the sisters in my life who support, inspire and empower me to be the best women I can be! I urge each of you to reach out this weekend to your special sisters and celebrate the wonderful friendships that have come into your life as a result of being in SDT!

Let's have some fun this week! Which SDT Founder Are You Most Like?  Are you a "leader" like Dora, or an "activity girl" like Regene? Take our fun Founders quiz  and find out! Post your results with us at @sdtsorority, #sdtfoundersday. I'm like Amy Apfel Tishman, the "Personality Plus Coed"!

All my best,

Alumnae Thoughts
On the Blog: Connecting with Sisters Where You Live

"My sorority days are in my rearview mirror, but memories remain that make me smile. After my youngest child left for college, I decided I wanted to reconnect with Sigma Delta Tau in my local area. The question was how and where?"

In the News: SuEllen Fried Delivers Inspiring TEDx Talk

SuEllen Fried, Alpha Eta-Washington, is the founder of Reaching Out from Within which  supports prison rehabilitation programs for inmates who want to make lasting changes in their behavior.  She recently delivered an inspiring TEDx Talk, "Lessons From Behind Barbed Wire." Watch it here.

SuEllen is an SDT Outstanding Alumna (2004). She received the SDT Outstanding Achievement Award (1984) for her role in connecting SDT with Prevent Child Abuse America.
Volunteers Needed in Washington D.C. Area
The Mid-Atlantic region of SDT is hosting a philanthropy themed spring regional event for their chapters and we are looking for alumnae to come and staff the event!

The universities participating are American University, George Washington University, University of Maryland, York College of Pennsylvania and University of Pennsylvania!

If you are interested in supporting this program, please email Mackenzie Lipman at  [email protected] .
Chapter Spotlight
We hosted our Alternative Spring Break program in Miami, Florida, March 11-16. We had nine undergraduates from various chapters spend their spring break doing community service to support the Children's Home Society and the PACE Center for Girls

We look forward to our first ever Summer Program in May in Philadelphia.
"We Will!"  Please Support the SDT Foundation
We accepted this sisterhood as part of our lives with the simple words "We Will," expressing our dedication to work for our ideals. Those two words drive the commitment of all SDT Foundation initiatives. "We Will" continue to carry the Torch-lighting the way with leadership, scholarship, and educational opportunities to extend the legacy of our sisterhood.

Stand with your sisters and exclaim "We Will" by honoring our 101st Founders Day with a charitable donation to the SDT Foundation. Click here to give or text "101" to (228) 3-25-1917 to donate today.
I love celebrating Sigma Delta Tau's Founders Day every year! It's our 101st this year...the first year of a new century. Sorority life sure has changed, but one thing remains constant and that's our shared commitment to sisterhood! No matter your chapter or where you reside, you are connected to 70,000 sisters around the world!

I can't wait to see your pictures and posts, so please remember to tag the organization and use our hashtags: #sdtsno18 #sdtfoundersday!  And, do take our Founders quiz and share your results! I am like Dora Bloom Turteltaub, "the leader."

I hope you enjoyed our new section above with stories from alumnae. If you have an idea for a blog, a great story to share, or even something helpful for other alumnae to know, we'd enjoy hearing from you!

Fraternally,
Margaux Manley Lima, Alpha Mu-University of Miami
