January 2018
From the National President
Dear Sister,

2017 was quite a year for Sigma Delta Tau!  Membership numbers are up across the country, as were donations to our philanthropic partners.  Chapters participated in top notch SDT programs, and undergraduates and alumnae helped serve their local communities thru many outstanding service projects. And, we can't forget that in 2017, SDT turned 100! Sisters and friends from across the country gathered in NYC to celebrate this milestone event! We have so much to be proud of as members of Sigma Delta Tau!

The upcoming year should prove to be a busy one! We have updated our  Chapter Leader Days curriculum and will be hosting nine regional leadership conferences in January and February, where every SDT chapter will participate. We will be training and mentoring over 500 collegiate leaders through this outstanding program!

Additionally, we began a new five-year strategic plan to ensure that SDT remains relevant and a top sorority for years to come. And, we are  preparing for our 2018 National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. The theme of the weekend will be "Empowering Women Empower Women." We are looking forward to an event filled with educational sessions, idea sharing and sisterhood.

On behalf of the National Board of Directors, I would like to wish each of you a Happy New Year! I know that 2018 will be a GRΣΔΤ one!

Positive Aging: What's the Secret?
Join us for our next Empowering Alumnae Speaker Series!
Wednesday, January 17, 9 p.m. EST

Presented by Jane Jaffe Giddan, Alpha-Cornell (1962), and Gabrielle Giddan, Alpha Nu-Wisconsin (1992)

This mother-daughter conversation will offer an intergenerational view of aging, life transitions, ways to achieve well-being at any age, and what the generations can learn from each other. We'll talk about the tenets of positive psychology and their relationship to the 70Candles! project. The discussion will be of interest to anyone expecting to get older:
  • Are you aging and wondering what lies ahead?
  • What do we mean when we talk about longevity and the new old age?
  • Life transitions: From Cornell SDT to today--Jane's story.
  • What is the 70Candles! project all about?
  • What matters most to older women?
  • What does positive psychology have to do with aging?
  • What can the generations learn from each other?
