SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs are excited to announce the creation of the Player Development and Analytics (PDA) program.

Its objective is to utilize modern, in-depth statistical analysis in evaluating and educating players, and monitoring improvement in performance.

Director Paul Boutilier leads the six-person program. The Sydney, Nova Scotia, native was the 1982 winner of the Emile Bouchard Trophy as QMJHL defenseman of the year and won the 1983 Stanley Cup as a member of the New York Islanders.

He also coached at the CIS level and returned to school as a student himself, earning a business degree from Saint Mary's University and an MBA in Information Technology Management from Athabasca University.

After extensive research into the slow development of defensemen, Boutilier conceived a Defense Development Program (DDP) based on his coaching and playing experiences. He has used his program as a Defense Player Development coach with the Nashville Predators for several years. It is a critical component of the PDA program with the Sea Dogs.

General Manager Darrell Young and New Brunswick scout Ritch Thibeau are members of the PDA staff as senior advisors.

The other PDA team members are:

Steven Cocker - Player Development Analyst

Cocker is working towards a degree in Sport and Leisure Management at Haaga-Helia University in Finland. He is writing his thesis on the Progression of Analytics in Hockey.

Brad MacKenzie - Player Development Analyst

MacKenzie is a member of the Defense Development Program's staff and specializes in the evaluation of game analytics with a focus on player development. He is an assistant coach with the UPEI Panthers men's hockey club.

Emily Parkman - Report Development and Design

Parkman will work closely with the Player Development Analysts to design and deliver reports to the Sea Dogs' Hockey Operations staff. She is also a member of the Defense Development Program's staff and works on reports for the Nashville Predators.
