PRESS RELEASE
SEA DOGS TO HAVE ROTATING ALTERNATE CAPTAINS

Cameron, Weckworth and Cooper first to wear 'A's

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept. 12, 2013

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs have announced plans to rotate alternate captains for the 2013-14 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season.

Head Coach and General Manager Mike Kelly said three players will start the season wearing 'A's. The letters will be passed to other players monthly.

Under the plan, the team will not name a captain.

Forwards Jason Cameron and Oliver Cooper, and defenceman David Weckworth, have been named the first alternate captains of the season.

"With a younger team, we want to make sure we give our players the opportunity to contribute and allow leadership qualities to emerge," Kelly said. "This is a close room. We have older players who can provide leadership, but we feel like this is a way to allow leadership qualities to develop long-term."

Cameron, 20, is entering his fourth season with the Sea Dogs and is the last player remaining from the 2011 President's Cup and Memorial Cup championship season. He has ten goals and 22 points in 175 career games.

Cooper, 18, is embarking on his third season with Saint John. He has posted 17 goals and 43 points in 127 career games.

Weckworth, 20, is starting his second season on the Sea Dogs' defence. He posted five assists in 43 games for Saint John last season.

The Sea Dogs open the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular season this Friday at 7 p.m. when they take on the Wildcats at the Moncton Coliseum.  Saint John's home opener is Saturday, September 21st, against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at Harbour Station. Tickets will be available Friday at the Harbour Station box office, online at tickets.harbourstation.ca, or by calling 657-1234.
