SEAA Joins Industry Stakeholders Endorsing Workforce Development
|
The Steel Erectors Association of America has joined other industry stakeholders in publicly supporting seven policy recommendations to make the United States the world leader in workforce development.
RT 335, issued this month, tackles the topic: "Restoring the Dignity of Work: Transforming the U.S. Workforce Development System into a World Leader." This advocacy document is meant to educate local, state, and federal legislators on why reforming our workforce system is critical. It outlines seven policies that can be implemented in less than three years that will positively impact workforce development. MORE

New Officers Take Helm of SEAA Board of Directors

Four new officers were elected to the Steel Erectors Association of America's Board of Directors during the July Board Meeting held in Orlando, Fla.
The meeting was led by incoming President Dave Schulz, who took office last April during the 46th Annual Convention and Trade Show in Greensboro, N.C. MORE

Training Grant Goes to CSE Inc.

The Steel Erectors Association of America announces that
CSE Inc., which provides erecting, rigging, crane, and industrial contracting services from its Madison Heights, Va., headquarters, was selected to receive the 2018 SEAA Craft Training Grant.
Designated for member companies who are newly implementing SEAA/NCCER Ironworker Training and Assessment programs, the grant covers initial setup, training for administrators, instructors, and coordinators, and custom training materials for Ironworker Levels 1-3 or similar curriculum. MORE

New Standard to Prevent Dropped Objects
The American National Standards Institute approved in early July the publication of a new standard to address the need for dropped object prevention and tool tethering. ANSI/ISEA 121-2018: American National Standard for Dropped Object Prevention Solutions was developed by safety equipment manufacturers working with the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA). ISEA 121 will establish minimum design, performance/testing and labeling require
ments for dropped object prevention solutions including tool and anchor attachments, tool tethers and containers that transport tools and equipment to and from at-heights work zones.

Orlando Meet & Greet a Success
|
Close to 50 people attended the Meet & Greet Reception following the July Board of Directors meeting in Orlando, Fla., held July 19 at the Grand Bohemian Erectors, fabricators, reinforcing ironworkers, and suppliers from the area were present.
Tim Eldridge delivered an overview of SEAA's Craft Training & Apprenticeship programs, and special guest, Steve Greene, vice president of NCCER, shared the latest statistics on attrition rates for qualified workers in construction. The reception was sponsored by
Hilti.

Several SEAA members made the 2018 list of top crane companies. Presented by American Cranes & Transport, the index is calculated by
adding together the maximum lifting capacities in U.S. tons of all crawler cranes and mobile cranes in a company's fleet. The full list is found in the

Shelby Erectors Invests in Mobile Training Trailer
|
Shelby Erectors Inc., Davie, Fla., which is an approved SEAA/NCCER Ironworker Training Unit, recently invested in a mobile training trailer. The mobile classroom is equipped for up to 10 students and an instructor.
Dubbed Rebar U, the trailer will be used to deliver NCCER Core and Reinforcing Ironworker training and certification to Shelby Erectors' employees on the job site. MORE
