SEARAC Saddened, Outraged by Ferguson Decision
SEARAC was incredibly saddened last night by the Grand Jury's decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the murder of Michael Brown--an unarmed African American youth in Ferguson, Missouri. For too long and far too frequently, communities of color have been denied due process and equal justice, and we are outraged that the case will not even go to trial.
The events in Ferguson sparked a powerful movement for racial justice in this country, and we must continue to push forward a national conversation about over-policing, racial profiling, and police brutality targeted at young people of color, including our Southeast Asian American youth. SEARAC stands in solidarity with the Brown family in their hope that Michael's death was not in vain, but instead leads to transformative change in our criminal justice and law enforcement systems to prevent the senseless loss of many more young lives.
