STE Standards

Information Session: 

 

 Massachusetts Early Education and Care (EEC) and The Wheelock College Aspire Institute will host in-person and online information sessions to introduce the newly approved Pre- Kindergarten Science, Technology and Engineering Standards (Pre-K STE Standards). These information sessions will help educators create learning opportunities for children in science, technology and engineering, both at home and in early education programs.

DMH I/T Mental Health Trainings
  
  

The five-hour intensive training, Overview of Infant and Toddler Mental Health for Educators, will provide an overview of 1) the development of optimal mental health, 2) factors that contribute to the development of social emotional disturbance, 3) the importance of working closely with parents and families, and 4) strategies for supporting social-emotional competence.  This training is offered in each EEC region in the months of February, March, and June.  The training meets QRIS Standards 1.B.2.1 and 1.B.3.1 and addresses Core Competencies 1,2 and 3.  Educators can receive 2.5 CEUs for attendance and social workers and licensed mental health clinicians can receive 5.0 CEUs.  

 

Region 5, 5-hour training dates:
  • Wednesday March 12,2014 (EEC Office Taunton, MA, 9:00am-3:00pm)
  • Thursday June 12,2014 (EEC Office Taunton, MA, 9:00am-3:00pm)
Part 1 of the 2.5 hour training focuses on the development of optimal mental health in typical infants and toddlers.  We already provided one series of Part 1 in the Fall 2013 and was re-offered in January.  Part 2 focuses on signs of less than optimal mental health development in infants and toddlers and on some factors that contribute to the onset of early childhood social-emotional disturbance.  Attendance at Part 1 is not required to be able to attend, but it is recommended.  Certificates of attendance for 2.5 diverse learning credits will be awarded.  Social workers and licensed mental health clinicans can receive 2.5 CEUs.

EEC Partnership Conference: Supporting Young Dual Language Learners' School Readiness and Beyond

This is a FREE one-day event focusing on the importance of supporting, instructing and assessing DLLs and English Language Learners (ELLs) from Birth through Grade 12 to ensure school readiness and success.  

Date: Thursday February 27, 2014 
Time: 9:00am-3:30pm
Location: Wheelock College
Audience: PreK-Public Schools, CFCE Grantees, Head Start, Early Education Programs, Home Visitng, EPS Grantees, Readiness Centers, Institutes of Higher Education, State Partner Agencies, CCR&R Agencids, Mental Health Grantees, advocacy groups, and others.

New Start: 
Supporting Multilingual Young Children and Immigrant and Refugee Families
    
The "New Start: Supporting Multilingual Young Children and Immigrant and Refugee Families" Regional Training Sessions will be conducted by the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) and the Multilingual Action Council (MAC). The goal of this new training series is to equip providers, stakeholders and other professionals with knowledge on immigration policy as it impacts children and families, cultural competency, and child development and educational principles in the context of multilingual homes and multicultural environments. Participants need to attend only one day trainings session listed in their regional area. See schedule below to register.

  • Immigrant & Refugee Demographics (Regional and State) 
  • ABC's of Immigration & Refugee Law and Policy (Impact in children and Families)

  • Being a Resource for Families and connecting Families to local services and resources
