SEMDA Announces Call for Presenting Companies

ATLANTA, GA, Jan 23, 2014 - Medical device and medical device data system (MDDS) companies seeking funding are invited to apply to present at the Southeastern Medical Device Association's (SEMDA) 8th annual conference to be held May 7-8, 2014 at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel and Convention Center in Atlanta, GA.  Application deadline is March 10, 2014.

Applications are now available at www.semda.net/conference or download here. There is no charge to apply. For companies selected (and that choose to present), the cost is just $795, which includes two conference admissions. Each accepted company will be provided a mentoring team of industry experts that includes an investor and a CEO, plus experts in legal, commercialization and finance.

"SEMDA is raising the bar in 2014 and seeking early growth and growth equity phase companies headquartered in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic that are seeking investment," stated Bob Crutchfield, President Of SEMDA and General Partner at Harbert Venture Partners. "As an institutional investor, former industry executive, and this year's SEMDA President, we are extending the pull of the investment community from a national footprint to include strategics, venture capitalists and angel investors. The 2014 SEMDA Conference will be the site where invention and investment meet."

SEMDA again will recognize the "Presenting Company SpotLight Award." The winner will be chosen by an independent panel of judges and the audience and will be announced at the end of the conference. AdvaMed is again awarding the winner of the Presenting Company in the Spotlight with a complimentary registration for their 2014 conference, as well as an invitation to present to their investor community October 6-8, 2014, at the MedTech Conference in Chicago.

"The companies that we have met through the SEMDA conference have been invaluable to Brookhaven in building our portfolio," said John Feltman, Director of Brookwood Investments.  "In addition to our recent investment in CreatiVasc Medical, we are in active discussions with several other companies that we met through SEMDA relationships. SEMDA has become an extremely valuable network for both investors and medical device companies in the Southeast."

Companies selected will present to seed investors, angel investors, venture capitalists, private equity firms and corporations focused on medical device investment and new technology acquisition. The 2014 conference will also feature high value speakers including Steve Ubl, President of AdvaMed, discussing national medical device legislation and policy updates, and Jeffry Shuren, MD of the FDA CDRH, who will be providing the latest FDA updates. Informative programs focused on the conference theme, "Thriving During Healthcare Reform," will be part of the two day event, which includes 1:1 partnering, presentation of the SpotLight Awards and opportunities for attendees to make meaningful industry connections. Returning again will be the highly regarded Gala on the evening of May 7th.

Recognized as the premier gathering for the Southeast medical device industry, SEMDA's conference offers opportunities for medical device companies to grow their business and build effective networks by bringing together professionals nationally and from throughout the Southeast to connect, learn and grow.
