 Grain Market Comments

Last week's USDA report assures we may have a record corn crop - http://farmdocdaily.illinois.edu/2016/09/changes-in-corn-soybean-production-forecasts.html.

With early 60 under July corn harvest bids there should be significant ownership opportunities to manage inventories into next Summer.  Procurement for the ethanol industry (with strategic storage space) will receive help with supply risk and exporters will need a sharp pencil in projecting demand.

Attached is a AgEcon101 "on-farm" storage calculator that can be adjusted for looking at commercial "corn carrying" opportunities in the weeks ahead.

Is there a simple and uniform method of figuring a rental rate for farm grain storage? Some useful guidelines are outlined in the link above.

We believe positions are unique to each person's risk bearing ability, marketing strategy and crop conditions, therefore we give no blanket recommendations. The risk of loss in trading commodities can be substantial, therefore carefully consider whether such trading is suitable for you in light of your financial condition.
