Theater-on-the-road: Murder Cafe
SEPTEMBER 2015
A Message from
 Frank Marquette

"From the start it has been the theatre's business to entertain people ... it needs no other passport than fun". -Bertolt Brecht

Like you I could use another month of summer. The past few months have been filled with a lot of work and not enough play. Let me amend that: my work is my play and my play is my work so outside of the fact I need more time I'm not complaining.

In the past we've used the summer months to recharge batteries, brush up our fall and winter scripts and hold auditions. We did all of that plus yours truly was seen on stage in both New York City and Chicago! In June I directed, and took a role in, Bill Ducan's one act comedy, "America Speaking", which was staged at the Manhattan Repertory Theatre. In August, my daughter Irene Marquette-Eckstein, a professional improviser and director in Chicago, asked me to open her Curio Show at the Improv Olympic. All in all, it's been a very satisfying summer!

And now the fall-winter season. Here's a short list of what's on my desk:

  • Our 2015 Halloween show, A Wedding in Transylvania - opens October 16th!
  • Old Dutch Church Cemetery Ghost Tours - premieres in October in Kingston, NY
  • A September 25th performance of Murder at the Mic  at Joseph's Steakhouse
  • A September 16th performance of Murder by Chocolate - private company party
  • Bookings for Sheila Dee & The Dazzlers - for info www.sheiladeeshow.com
  • Tales of the Hudson Valley at the Rosendale Theatre - premiers September 26th
  • A children's theatre version of Hansel and Gretel - premieres September 27th
  • Bookings and casting for A Christmas Carol - opens December 6th

As you can see we've bit off a lot but our passions drive us to make our small contribution to theater in the Hudson Valley area. The work is hard but the rewards are great. Whether you support us or your local entertainment venue, we appreciate any effort you make to keep the performance arts alive and healthy.

Thanks for reading!

ACTORS WANTED
We are launching a series of CEMETERY GHOST TOURS with a well established landmark in Ulster County, New York. We're looking for five actors, three men and two women. Each will play a historic figure set in the colonial period of the 1770s. Actors will be in period costume and be required to learn something of their character and the period in which they lived. Character summaries and historic timelines will be available. Each tour will be approximately 60 minutes, which will allow each actor to have a 10 minute interactive monologue. Improvisation is required.

We are seeking one African-American woman for one of the female roles.

The performances/tours will begin in late September and run on consecutive Saturdays through early November. There will be one-three tours per Saturday, weather and demand permitting.

Actors will be paid for each performance.

Email us at [email protected] and include a photo if possible.

Give yourself, or a loved one, the portrait you've always wanted.
