Spreading the Love and the Mulch All Around

The entire one acre space is all mulched now. Thanks to the hard labor of many volunteers over multiple weekends, and a special assist from Recology San Francisco to finish things up! Alan Perotti and Kenny Stuart brought out the Recology tractor to help do the final evening-out of the mulch generously donated by Bayview Greenwaste. Special thanks to Maurice Quillen and Paul Giusti at Recology and welcome new Recology Group President Mark Arsenault! 



Bioswales already ready for the rainy season

Volunteers have dug up the two bioswales for the garden to catch rainwater for the all the thirsty plants in the garden before the rainwater runs off into the street. And we got 9 cubic yards of gravel from Western Gravel and Roofing Supply right in the neighborhood at 1426 Donner Ave. General Manager Eugene Lee is a local kid made good and one of the most upright guys in the business. Thanks Eugene!

Who says a tool shed can't be a play shed too?

Excitement in the neighborhood when the Sheedy Crane and flatbed truck drove up to deliver our new tool shed! The shed was generously donated by Mohammed Nuru, Director of SF Department of Public Works from the old Garden for the Environment on Octavia. The shed is a converted shipping container with open windows so it can double as a rest area and congregating space during volunteer days. Thanks to Liz Lerma and Jimmer Cassiol of DPW for making all the arrangements!

  

The Green Initiative for Asian Families (GIAF) is seeking motivated volunteers to help us grow the first Asian community garden organized by and for the Asian community in San Francisco. Help create a green space that will help new immigrants live healthy lifestyles, grow and share fresh produce. The green space will have features to be enjoyed by people of all backgrounds. 

 

If you enjoy being outdoors and getting your hands dirty, join us in building the garden from the ground up!


You must be physically able to do light garden work including bending, stretching, and light lifting in an outdoor setting. Any training will be done by appropriate staff and will be specific to your assigned work area.

The second and fourth Saturday of every month

10am-1pm at the end of the cul-de-sac at Williams Ave. and Diana St.

The Green Initiative for Asian Families (GIAF) is a project of the AsianWeek Foundation. GIAF is a network of Asian and Pacific Islander community-based organizations and service providers committed to developing a culturally proficient and inclusive approach to increase sustainable practices. The garden site is located in the Bayview District and is approximately one acre in size.
