A Look Back...
2013 was an exciting and productive year for the Sarcoma Foundation of America, thanks to our outstanding volunteers, donors and partners.
  • We awarded almost $900,000 to top research scientists across the country through our Research Grants Program
  • General contributions were up over 60%
  • We reduced fundraising expenses from 18% to 11%
  • Our 12th annual gala in New York City was the largest ever (625 attended)
  • We added four new state Chapter Leaders, bringing our total to 25
  • We developed a partnership with a major pharmaceutical company on a research study utilizing our Patient Registry
  • Our Patient Registry increased by 35%
  • We increased Facebook followers by 90% and Twitter followers by 60%
  • Our first SFA Blog was published
  • We had our largest turnout ever of sarcoma advocates at Rare Disease Day in Washington, DC
  • We continued to develop and strengthen the numerous relationships we have with other cancer and rare disease organizations throughout the country
  • We added four new, outstanding members to our already strong Board of Directors and 11 new members to our world class Medical Advisory Board
In 2014, we will continue the positive momentum by focusing much of our energy on our newest program: Vision 2020.  V2020 is a collaborative research program, focusing on sarcoma subtype profiling and personalized treatment.  Our Patient Registry data, combined with clinical and genomic data from non-profit and for-profit partners, will be used to reveal specific molecular targets on specific subtypes.  Drugs will be aimed at those specific targets and also directed at mouse models with the patient's actual tumor, with the anticipated outcome resulting in personalized therapy.  Not only will this be our primary focus for years to come, but we believe that this proactive, innovative and collaborative model is the best way to find the cure in our time!  But keep in mind, this program needs your support.  The formula to accomplish our mission is quite simple: To find the cure, we need to fund the best research.  To fund the best research, we need the generous support of people like you.  You can make a difference!

On behalf of everyone at the SFA, thanks for all you do to support our important mission.

Rare Disease Day

On the last day of February each year, the rare disease community unites to celebrate Rare Disease Day.  In honor of this day, the community joins forces over the course of the last week of February to draw attention to the special needs of those who are dealing with rare diseases like sarcoma.  While we work tirelessly every day to raise awareness, we see Rare Disease Day, and the days that lead up to it, as a wonderful opportunity to further educate the public, legislators, and government regulators about the challenges faced by those with sarcoma.

The Rare Disease Legislative Advocates (RDLA) have once again taken the lead in developing the fantastic events held during this week and the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA) is proud to be a partner with them in this effort.  We would like to invite you to join us in participating in these events to be held in Washington, DC.   Click here for more details
