About the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management:
The
San Francisco Department of Emergency Management (DEM) leads the City in planning, preparedness, communication, response, and recovery for daily emergencies, large scale citywide events, and major disasters. DEM is the vital link in emergency communication between the public and first responders, and provides key coordination and leadership to City departments, stakeholders, residents, and visitors.
City's El Nino Planning and Preparation Efforts:
Building upon our existing severe weather plan, San Francisco Department of Emergency Management is working with City agencies to develop a comprehensive El Nino plan so we can sustain our response and recovery efforts as long as necessary. We also are working with our partners to make sure we are as prepared and ready as possible to handle the effects of a significant El Nino. Community engagement, and how we all have a role in the response to severe weather, or any type of emergency, is a vital link within the City's El Nino preparations. The faith-based community is a pivotal partner in this effort, and through the
San Francisco Interfaith Council, DEM looks forward to working together to make sure San Francisco is ready to handle the challenges an El Nino may cause to us all.
