SHARK Fights for
NJ's Bears |
The
impending New Jersey bear hunt is a nightmare that we have
witnessed before, for we have seen the bloodied bodies of our bears
and the smiles on the faces of those who butchered
them.
We
grieved but did not despair. Our hearts were broken, but our
spirits were not. We did not allow ourselves to slip into the
common thought that once a bear hunt was initiated it would be
unstoppable and forever happen. What we did was fight and fight
hard. That is why we have had four good years without a bear hunt.
Working together, fighting as one, we stopped the
unstoppable.
Our
current Governor, Chris Christie, is having a bear hunt for one
reason; he sold our bears to hunters in exchange for their
electoral support. This will be exposed and this hunt branded
"Christie's Corruption," for when a politician trades lives for
personal gain, that is the essence of corruption.
We
will need all our strength and resolve to hold Christie accountable
for this travesty and that is why we are announcing an alliance
between the Animal Protection League of NJ (APLNJ) and SHowing
Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) to fight this bear hunt. By
uniting these two organizations for this cause, we are declaring
that the battle is now joined. Our steeled will against their weak
and selfish hearts. Our compassion over their lust for slaughter.
Our honor crushing their corruption.
Though
the struggle begins now it will not end this December. Whether the
bear hunt can be stopped or not this year, we are engaged in a long
term campaign to rectify our government from the greedy politicians
who treat animal cruelty as a form of currency and the hunters who
lick their boots in return for a chance to kill the largest
"trophy" animal in our state.
If
you've fought with us before, or are new to this, then the call is
given; we need you and your strength to stand for New Jersey's
bears. We are resolved: No longer shall the forces of corruption
and cruelty reign freely in our state. It's time to
fight.
This
is "Floppy" a NJ bear that was shot and wounded in the 2003 bear
hunt. Thanks to the care of NJ activists, who risked arrest to get
her medical treatment, she survived her bloody wounds.
Tragically, hundreds of other bears did not.

The
truth has been exposed; the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife
fabricated the number of complaints against NJ's bears in order to
provide a reason for the forthcoming bear hunt!
Thanks to the investigative work by Rutgers University Professor Dr. Edward Tavss,
who spent countless hours pouring over state records, it is now
fact that bear complaints have declined, not risen.
We
have to hit Governor Christie hard with this and demand that he
stop the hunt! Therefore, the first action campaign of
the new APLNJ/SHARK Alliance is a mass fax blitz to the Governor's
office. If you can send you own fax, here is the fax# 609 292
3454
If
you do not have access to a fax machine, we will send it on your
behalf. All you have to do is send us your full name and address
and we'll put it on the following prewritten faxes. We have two
different faxes set up; one for NJ residents and one for those who
live out of state. Christie has been traveling around the country
promoting himself for a future run for higher office - so everyone
has a role to play in fighting this hunt!
Please
also call the Governor's office and demand he stop this corrupt
bear hunt before it begins.

"Kindness and compassion towards
all living beings is a mark of a civilized society. Racism,
economic deprival, dog fighting and cock fighting, bullfighting and
rodeos are all cut from the same defective fabric: violence. Only
when we have become nonviolent towards all life will we have
learned to live well ourselves." - Cesar Chavez, civil rights and
